Yeah, normally I don’t feed into the whole “Texas is the best state ever” stuff, but in this case I’ll say it loud and proud: “God bless Texas!”
Why God bless Texas, you ask? Well, they have these little places called fireworks stands. And by little, I mean freakin’ huge. P.S. If you’ve never been to a fireworks stand before (I’m from Jersey where fireworks aren’t legal), then you must go. Granted, it’ll be a bit overwhelming, but seriously, you have to see it for yourself.
OK, now what in the heck does this have to do with my wedding? Sparklers, baby! Around the Fourth, I headed to one of these stands and was able to pick up 130 sparklers for $20. That’s right. Twenty buckaroos, y’all! No, they’re not those fancy “wedding” sparklers, but they’re my wedding sparklers and they’re gonna be awesome!
And instead of explaining why I need sparklers at my wedding, I’ll just show you.
Just in case you missed the last post or have been undecided on coming, I wanted to shoot a reminder to all Philly area bees that we’re meeting this Saturday, August 28th @ 1:00PM at Max Brenner at 1500 Walnut St. (15th St. between Walnut and Locust). Check their website out at www.maxbrenner.com.
I must finalize our count today for our reservation, so please RSVP by sending me a PM or by responding with a definite yes on this thread on the boards.
Trust me, you don’t wanna miss this!

Can’t wait to meet you guys!

One of my guilty pleasure musical artists is Ashlee Simpson. I must admit, there is something about her songs that get stuck in my head, including L.O.V.E., which would pop up in my head while working on this next DIY project.
While browsing the aisles of Michaels with Mr. E in tow (oh, how I love to shop for things when I have coupons!), I got a few ideas for some décor for the wedding/reception. One idea was to make a sign with our married name to display on the guestbook table and another sign spelling out LOVE for the candy/chocolate buffet table.
We proceeded to the wooden-letters section and found the letters to spell out his last name and an unfinished wooden plaque to glue them to (thankfully he has a short last name because we wouldn’t have been able to fit my last name on that plaque), along with paint and a couple Swarovski crystals for a little bling. They didn’t have the letters to spell LOVE, so we picked those up from another Michaels. (I think I’ve been to all four locations that are within 20 miles of our apartment.) We also grabbed another piece of unfinished wood and some wooden rods to stick the letters on. For internet privacy reasons, I won’t post pictures of the sign with Mr. E’s last name, but trust me, it’s cute!

We are taking our pre-ceremony, post-courthouse mini-moon soon. As I’ve mentioned, we are heading to Thailand for four days. We are super excited, but like everything else, we are doing this honeymoon on a budget. Lucky for us the yen is going strong, and we can stretch it a long way in Thailand. We’d really like to pick up our wedding rings there! Smart thinking, eh?
Although my parents are generously paying for our wedding, we are paying for our rings. We’re looking for something low cost, and I am very concerned about the rings being ethically mined and made. We actually have no idea what kind of jewelry we can get in Thailand, but we’ve been surfing my new obsession, Etsy, for inspiration.
I had Mr. Glasses show me some rings he’d like. OK, so I have to be honest here. I don’t like them.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
As I mentioned here, in our quest to make our wedding unique, we found a spectacular art gallery to host our ceremony. The art is amazing with tons of fabulous modern abstracts like these:

Epic find last night! Epic find, indeed. My mother’s dinosaur of a PC (roar!) sucks. I’m a Mac; converted in college and, dammit, I won’t go back. Anywho, our hugetastic family reunion needs invitations, and my tragically technically un-savvy mother needed help in designing the invites. “You can put this picture on the computer?” “Yes, Ma…eleven-year-old technology.” I digress.
There was a small period of time in between my shitatonic Dell hitting the fan, wiping out on its 180 back down to the floor, and when I received my shining beacon of technology. I had to upload my gazillions of pictures that I took onto Mom’s dinosaur. Unfortunately, on a computer feng shui attack I had one day, I deleted a ton of programs (including the sound…whoops!), thereby solidifying the computer’s appointment with the computer man. I thought my pictures were lost and gone for-ev-er, but last night I found them! As I was waiting for Mom’s picture to scan…I went a-searching through the computer. All of my England 2007 pictures were there! Woooo hooooo! I can finally replace the pixelated picture in my living room with the real deal, folks! Why is this wedding related, you ask? For the damn table “numbers.” I know I have mentioned these before but have yet to fully explain what they are. I’m sure you can figure it out by the name, though.
It all started when I attended my friend’s wedding. Not only did I attend…but I was the WEDDING DRESS DESIGNER. That’s right…I made her dress. Wanna see? (Yay for shameless self promotion!)

Getting married is a lot of work! It takes months of research, hours of planning, perhaps a few fights, and the coordination of so many people. So, when it finally happens it is like bursting a piece of bubble wrap—it is awesome and so rewarding!! I can’t wait for all of you to experience it!!! Ours was the perfect celebration! But it wasn’t perfect because nothing went wrong. Oh no, we had our issues. But I didn’t let those parts interfere. It was perfect because in its entirety it succeeded my expectations. And that is a very nice feeling!
The most unexpected greatness was…

We’re rounding out a big week of newbees with our latest bee from the accessories generation: Miss Brooch! Please join me in welcoming her to the hive!

Miss Brooch, Arlington, VA
Age & Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager
Engagement Date: October 3, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Oxon Hill Manor
About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
We have our wedding DVD!!!
Video clip and all film stills by Wilson Fontaine
I had mentioned way back when how excited Mr. Hamster and I were about our videographer, Wilson Fontaine, who was the first vendor we had booked. Last week we received our wedding DVD, and we are BEYOND thrilled!

One of the perks associated with having our wedding in a non-traditional venue is our ability to include some non-traditional ideas, like camping.

(source)
There will be rooms—with doors and windows and running water—for us Husky’s, our parents and our wedding party (and their respective dates). Most wedding guests will either be driving home to Denver, or staying at a hotel in Pueblo—still a 25 minute drive from the reception.
But some of our more dedicated friends will be tent-camping. So how will we keep our wedding from looking like a Tent City?
***Mr E, the following possibly contains some information NOT meant for your beady eyes before the wedding, so your reading of it stops here. I mean it! I see you trying to sneak past. Step away from the computer. P.S. I love you. ***
During the wedding planning process many of us are bombarded with images and ideas of pretty things we just “must have.” And sometimes during that bombardment we stumble across a designer that we fall in love with. For me, that designer happens to be Australian (I know, for a kiwi that is almost painful to admit): Leona Edmiston.
So, I was coming off a huge high from our amazing ceremony. Burger and I ushered ourselves into the back room, followed closely by our bridal party and family members. I remember being so enamored with what had just happened—”Ohmygod we’re married! This is my husband! I’m so thirsty…”
It seemed like only minutes had passed when our photographers entered the room and said that it was time for formal portraits. Once we were back on the altar, one photographer said, “OK, your ceremony was REALLY LONG so we have got to move QUICKLY on these portraits.”
*senses threat to rigid schedule, enters PANIC MODE*
I immediately transformed into a Bridezilla Drill Sargeant. You see, between the two of us, Burger and I have 100+ immediate family members who needed to organize themselves for these pictures, and fast. My poor mother/in laws/extended family were trying to talk to one another (since it was their first opportunity to), and I was bossing them around and telling them where to stand. I wish I had just let the photographer do the announcing, but I’m a huge control freak. Hindsight, ya know?
When we first started the wedding planning process, I didn’t even know what DIY stood for. After lurking on The Knot’s boards for a while, I found the DIY boards and learned how many ways you could save money by making stuff yourself. The added benefit, other than the savings, is that these little projects make the wedding more personal.
So I did a little research and decided our first DIY projects would be the monogram and the save-the-date magnets. I’ve always loved putting up friends’ save-the-date magnets or cards on our fridge and got excited thinking that people would be putting ours up on their respective fridges! I should probably mention that Mr. E comes from a very creative family. Mr. E’s mom was so wonderful to take my old college shirts and make them into this keepsake masterpiece below. I absolutely love it, and what better way to keep my memories from college since I no longer wear t-shirts on a regular basis (yay, corporate America)?
Whilst planning our honeymoon to Disney World, I discovered that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter would have its grand opening two weeks before we were there. And have I ever mentioned to you that I love the Harry Potter series? If not, let it be known, I LOVE the Harry Potter series. For my sake, Mr. Lace has watched all the movies with me. However, as time passed, he started asking questions.
“Why does Snape hate Harry so much?”
“Does Hermione like Ron?”
“Why didn’t Harry die?”
He was looking for a short answer, but for any of you Harry Potter fans, you know, there are no short or easy explanations in Harry Potter. I wouldn’t say he loves Harry Potter, but I think he’ll admit that it’s a well-crafted story and is impressed with my in-depth knowledge on the topic (or so I’d like to think).
Anyway, when I mentioned going to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios, Mr. Lace was all for it. However, we didn’t make any firm plans.
