Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Hearts on Twine

September 1st, 2010 @ 1:12 pm by Mrs. Locket

A few posts ago I shared with you my new-found love for paper garlands and hinted that I may be tempting my fate at them. Well, this past weekend Mr. L and I worked together and within a few hours of time we created our own heart garland. I started the project off by using my Hotmarks tool (boy, this thing is handy!) to burn-cut hearts out of an old romance novel (donated by Momma L).

What does burn-cut mean?

Well, I just made that word up; but what I did was trace the shape of a heart in pen to start. I then went over the outline with the sharp-pointed tip adapter until it burned through the paper enough so that a couple of layers could easily be removed. As I removed hearts from each page I turned the hollow pages (those with hearts removed) to fresh ones and continued the cut-burning process (another cool part is that I ended up with a heart hollowed book). Soon enough, we had a nice large pile of hearts ready to be strung. But, what to use? How about that giant roll of twine that’s been taking up space for 4 years!

We poked two holes in each heart (a punch would be easier, but I couldn’t find mine) and working together strung the hearts along the twine. And, soon enough…

…we had 30+ feet of vintage, rustic heart garland ready to be hung and flung over every corner of our apartment for a photo shoot. I like to think that Mr. L was pretty proud of his handiwork. ;)

On another awesome side note…we also received a great gift from reader teeleaf22 (THANK YOU!!). She generously donated her left over “Just Married” banner for us to use (I can’t wait to donate decorations). I think it looks pretty great alongside the hearts!

This is definitely a project worth the time spent. It was easy, breezy, and beautiful adorable (geesh I sound like a Maybeline commercial). I also love that Mr. L was there by my side helping out! Now I just need to push him to work on this project on his own. Maybe I can bribe him with pizza and wings?

What do you think?

Love the garland! I’m hoping to use an idea like to decorate the hotel room for my MOH’s bachelorette party that is coming up.

That is really cute, I was trying to think of way to incorporate the mister and I’s love of books without actually holding the wedding in a library, this just might be it. I think I will probably substitute satiny ribbon to match our colors and look.

I love these! They’re going to look great. I’m with you on excitement about donating decorations post-wedding, it’s fun to help others out with things you loved at your wedding.

@mrspaetz: Hotmarks is a tool I’ve used for many a project on here…it’s a woodburning tool with many different adapters and is useful for many things craft-wise. I’ve mentioned it in other posts before, but here’s a link to it if you wanna check it out!
