About Mrs. Brooch

Sweet Dreams!

September 2nd, 2010 @ 1:56 pm by Mrs. Brooch

I scream…You scream…We all scream for ice cream (and candy)!

Mr. Brooch and I both have a sweet tooth. A meal is not complete until we have something sweet to finish it off. We both love ice cream and we both have a favorite candy. Aaron’s favorite ice cream is Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Bean and mine is Häagen-Dazs Chocolate (weird, right?). His favorite candy is Snickers and mine is Hershey’s dark chocolate!

Mmmmm…

We’re so in love with sweets that we thought it would be fun and appropriate to share our sweet taste with our wedding guests. As many of you know, candy/dessert bars are a growing trend at weddings (and for wedding favors), and we’re ready to jump on the bandwagon!

We have a favor in mind (not candy bags), but we’d like candy to be a part of our dessert bar. We want to add a little twist to this idea, though, and have a Häagen-Dazs bar, too!!! We might be getting a little carried away (ya think?), but these are truly some of our favorite things, and that’s what it’s all about, right?

Now, if we had to choose (which we probably will), we would choose to have the Häagen-Dazs bar over the candy bar, just because we LOVE it so much. I am not even kidding. There is ALWAYS a pint of Häagen-Dazs in our freezer. In our early dating years, we used to pick up a different flavor of Häagen-Dazs every week! Any other girls gain a few during the dating years? The culprit for me was definitely ice cream! We tried Mango Sherbet, Banana Split, and Baileys flavors, but despite all the yummy, delicious variety out there, Mr. Brooch and I are plain people always came back good ole chocolate and vanilla.

Anyway, here is some inspiration for others out there considering a candy bar or for those of you who don’t know what it is! I know after a year of dieting, I’m definitely diving into the dessert bar! I know two others that will love this idea, too—my little sisters!!

I love ice cream. I can’t have it in my house. I WILL DEVOUR IT!!! I only have it when I visit friends. But I would love to be at your wedding chowing down on some HD… wow. I am splurging for a dessert buffet. I don’t really like cake and I’m more of a cheese cake fan so I’ll have that and some cookies and various other stuff. Your pics up there are awesome!

@bRooklynRocks: I’m the same way - if I could eat ice cream everyday, I totally would! I love the dessert buffet idea. It’s an awesome trend, and I know guests love the variety!

We had one at our wedding and I wouldn’t change it for the world! Our main color was purple so we did purple, white and chocolate (black) candies. Of course we had the obligatory rock candy, but we also had Whoppers, purple licorice, white gummi grapefruit, purple and white Jelly Bellys, purple and white barber poles, Hershey bars with custom labels (I made on my computer) Hershey Kisses (dark are wrapped in purple foil) and hand dipped chocolate covered pretzels (I used purple and white candy melts from Michael’s and did them all myself three days before the wedding.

Everyone loved it, the pictures I have of little old ladies with bags of candy are priceless! Not to mention we didn’t waste/spend money on a little trinket that most people wouldn’t care to keep.

Miss Brooch, I like the way you think. We had blue and green as our wedding colors, used similar flowers as the ones you mentioned the other day, and had the Ben & Jerry’s cart set up on the patio of our venue after dinner, complete with about 10 different flavors of ice cream (which was in addition to the cake, cupcakes and cheesecake that we had as dessert).

All those pictures are great! And yeah, I’m with JenBabe, I’m so curious to hear exactly HOW an ice cream buffet works - how does it not melt? Do you have big coolers, like in ice cream shops?! How do you DO this? Oh, and YAY for Hershey’s Special Dark! I grew up in Hershey and love all things Hershey, and it warms my heart when other people love Hershey. (c:

I love me a candy bar! They’ll never go out of style. A friend of mine had a cake tower made from single-serve Bluebell ice creams, those little round cartons you’d get for dessert in elementary school, you know? It was super cute. We ate it with those little wooden spoons. It was a sweet (hee hee!) touch.

@thistleandclovers: That sounds divine! I love Banana’s Foster!! @emma5w: @JenBabe: I don’t see us having a bar of ice cream and toppings, although that would be really cool, but rather a freezer of pre-packaged ice cream bars like in the last photo. Believe it or not, our catering vendor actually offers this!

We haven’t figured out all the logistics yet but we will be having an ice cream bar. Neither one of us likes cake, although we will be having two? Give me ice cream and cookies any day!!
My plan is to have a few different types of ice cream (cookie dough being one of them) along with the worlds best chocolate chip cookies :), brownies, sprinkles, fudge, whipped cream, cherries, maybe some other crushed up candies!!
Now I REALLY want some ice cream!

Love the idea of ice cream! If it wasn’t blazing hot here I would be all over that idea.

We did a gigantic candy buffet and it was the hit of the party! I’ve been to several with sundae bars or carts - always popular and yummy :)

We are having ice cream served with our cake. I don’t love cake (but Lord knows I’d never pass it up) but I love ice cream. And cake and ice cream is the best.

We are doing a baked-goods dessert bar! I couldn’t possibly limit myself to just one type of dessert!
