About Mrs. Seashell

Take A Seat!

September 2nd, 2010 @ 10:08 am by Mrs. Seashell

I am proud to say that we have braved a few projects with our Cricut! (Honestly, the thing still scares me a little, but we’re slowly becoming friends. Notice who’s operating it in the photo below.) Most recently, we have begun creating our escort cards. Here’s how our process works: I am the visionary, Mr. Seashell is the engineer. I do the organizational work, and then Mr. Seashell executes the details involving patience and precision. Yay teamwork!

The Idea:

Create golden leaves with our guests’ names and table numbers printed on them.

The Problem:

How to get printed information on a cut-out shape?

The Solution:

1. Figure out how many leaf shapes fit on a single sheet of paper.

2. Create a “negative”.

3. Scan the “negative” to your computer.

4. Type names and table numbers into the blank spots.

5. Print on desired paper.

6. Run print out through Cricut on same setting as “negative” previously created.

And that’s our process! I am checking and cross-checking each card with our guest list, and Mr. Seashell is operating the Cricut. So far so good.

What are we doing with these leaves, you ask? Here’s a reminder. It’s all coming together!

Did you have any projects that were less-than-straightforward? Were they worth it?

Oh please don’t laugh at me but, um, what is a cricut? I’m about to google it right now though. I swear, WB shows me a lot of things I’d never heard about! Your escort cards look beautiful though.

@bRooklynRocks: It cuts things. At least that’s what I’ve figured out.

Great job Miss Seashell!

Oh, I’ve been toying with the idea of using tickets for my place cards… i.e., those kind of concert tickets. I’ve been thinking of how to get those without blowing a gasket of money. I guess a cricut would do it. The thing is, I’m so not craft inspired. However, Ms. Seashell, I am loving, loving, loving your escort cards :)

@bRooklynRocks: Thanks! They seem to be coming out as I hoped! Were you able to find the info on a Cricut (www.cricut.com)? I hadn’t heard of one until I discovered Weddingbee either!

Ooo.. thank you so much. Currently working on program covers with my cricut, and was trying to figure out how to do escort cards, but you’ve given me a great idea. I would have never thought to scan in the “negative” to create a template.

Genius. I wish I had known when we were doing our name cards. My original plan was to cricut shapes, but it just wasn’t working. Although we have the original so I think it would have been a little tougher. Another reason to upgrade a the big one. :)

We had leaf-shaped escort cards, too! I tried to do exactly what you’ve done… but didn’t execute it nearly as perfectly. (I ended up hand-writing the names.)

Awesome job, Miss Seashell!

Ahhh, lining up the Cricut with printed objects is so hard! Your escort cards look awesome, Seashell. =)
I tried your method for a few things I worked on, but sometimes the program that I edited the scanned image on would randomly resize it, and it wouldn’t line up. If anyone else runs into that problem, the “hinge technique” works like a charm for both cartridge cuts and Sure Cuts a Lot projects.
You can find it here: http://cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2009/09/22/hinge-technique-for-cutting-printouts/
I’ve used it to cut out 155 of several different items for my Save the Date, and haven’t had any problems yet! It just takes FOREVER.
