What To Do, What To Do…

What To Do, What To Do... : wedding providence registry Registr Source

So today on my lunch break, I did a little stalking, err…dreaming…a little registry dreaming. Since we moved into our house a whopping four days prior to our engagement, we’ve got everything we need. Everything is new, but I’m really sick of scrubbing Martha’s stainless steel pans and I would like a cookie sheet or two. We are totally devoid of serving plates and other hosting gadgets. I’m as fancy as our Pampered Chef chopper, which I only use when I feel like cleaning the sucker. We’re doing a honeymoon registry and hoping most people take us up on that, seeing as how we can afford a road trip to New Bedford right now.

However, I do want some non-stick pans and a damn cookie sheet or two. Don’t get me started on bedding—me love bedding! OBSESSION!

This zebra print fetish is no joke, folks.

Anywho, I stopped by Bed Bath and Beyond today. DAMN! That place is duller than my natural hair color. Can I get a brightly colored anything in that store? Not even Fiesta plates…it’s pathetic. They have a frickin’ Snoopy shower curtain (is Snoopy still around?), but I can’t get a lime green or vivid red anything…anywhere? Look, I’m not knocking all of you who enjoy beige, and mauve, and sand, and other things kids can dirty up fast, but I like bright colors. I like slightly mismatched patterns with an interesting aesthetic. BB&B is like every home-goods store, on Prozac. It’s polite, practical, and too afraid it’s going to offend you with a bright yellow plate. I know, some of you might be thinking that my youth is showing. Isn’t it already enough that my senses are dulling with age, now I have to dull down my home? Okay, enough BB&B bashing. Forgive me. Hell, don’t. Do you know how much non-stick pans cost? Ridiculous!

So, I’m considering the Amazon Registry. I’m not going to lie: I’ve never seen one in my area. I’m a little concerned that those people not taking us up on the honeymoon registry won’t be able to figure out an online registry. I’m looking at you, Ma! I wish I could register at Marshall’s, but we all know that’s not possible. Le sigh.

So, what do you think? Should we do the Amazon Registry? Suck it up at BB&B? Or do you know an awesome, moderately priced store that we should register at instead?

I would suggest having a least one registry at a brick and mortar store. Your older guests will appreciate it. But there are plenty more options than just BB&B! Crate and Barrel, Restoration Hardware, and Pottery Barn are all good options, among many others. Look around a bit more before you commit to Amazon.

If you have a Kohls buy you I would check it out, I know for a fact the one near me stocks all the Fiesta ware colors. They also have a good selection of items for the whole house.

We had an aweful experience at BBand B… I also like fun colors (our kitchen is a candy apple green with stainless steel backsplash - yummy) and i wanted fun dishes to match! After they tried to convince us we needed china for a half hour and i repeatedly told them no and that i had a 2 year old and no place for china with one that likes to break everything, and their response was that what if my boss comes over (my FI works for his dad) and responded that his boss preferred paper plates and it wouldn’t be a problem, we decided that was not the place for us, but we did get some fun Bobby Flay ones at Kohls!

In addition to our honeymoon registry, I registered at Kohls. They have a ton of cute, festive kitchen, bath and bed stuff!

Register at CB2! The only actual store is in Chicago, I think, but they have a site, and they have a lot of colorful stuff.

Check out Crate and Barrel and Pier One. A lot of thier items are not as pricey as you may think and certainly on par with BB&B for serveware, etc. P.S. I have cookie sheets from Crate and Barrel and they are my favorite! Heavy duty commercial grade that are good for everything. I use parchment paper when I bake and clean up is simple!

What about Macy’s? A little more expensive than Marshall’s but they always have sales. It’s the go-to place for wedding gifts where I’m from.

Good luck with the online registries. We’ve had ZERO contributions to ours, and we’re three weeks out. We’re inviting a lot of country hick older folks, and they just don’t do that. Fingers crossed we get a lot of cash at the wedding, but as for now, we’re honeymooning on credit.

If you have people who can’t figure out how to go online (or don’t trust the internet! lord knows a lot of people don’t!), you might consider giving them a store where they’ll REALLY feel comfortable. I hate to say it, but… Target. Walmart. JCPenney. These are stores everyone knows and isn’t afraid of. Kohls is a good idea too as others said. I think Target and Kohls both have some pretty bold pieces these days too…

If you have to have a brick and mortar store, then clearly amazon won’t work, but I have to say amazon is by far my favorite registry. We can weight items to show what we really need/want and we can put comments in explaining why we decided on the ridiculously priced egg slicer. Also, they have a lot of 4 for 3 housewares and we can note that for our guests as well (means we might get an extra present, or our guests might not have to actually pay for our present :)). Also you can add anything at all to your amazon registry using the universal button. I really wish that every registry was as user friendly as the amazon registry. I am seriously in love with it.

this is randomly off topic– but I was in Hobby Lobby yesterday (for the first time) looking at their flowers.. and they have these feathery ball type things and they’re zebra print. I fell in love with them.. but can’t fit them into any of my decorations or bouquets maybe you could if that goes with your decor.

I can’t find the exact thing I saw on their website really quick, but heres something like it

I’d love to register at Le Creuset… sigh…
I love the idea of registering on Amazon, but I don’t think it’ll work for us. C&B, and Macy’s is where we’ll go I’m sure. I wonder if The World Market has a registry, I love that store too!

If you want bright colors such as Fiestaware and are afraid of guests being unable to navigate amazon, register at Macy’s or Khols - both of which sell bright Fiestaware..

Wow, that’s almost exactly the opposite of my impression of BB&B - everything seems so young to me! About 50% of their store is dedicated to college students.

I’ve been unwhelmed by our amazon registry, mostly because ours aren’t the kind of people to think far enough ahead to order online.

I echo suggestions to try Macy’s if you want fiesta-type dishes.

For kitchen stuff I’d recommend Sur La Table, WAY more exciting than BB&B.

We registered at Macy’s, Crate & Barrel, and Target. We registered for Macy’s in person, and they had a wide variety of colorful dishes, not just fancy china. Target has been the biggest disappointment. Guests have told us that it has been tough to buy things there between stuff that is only available online or only in stores or is no longer stocked.

DO IT - we have an Amazon registry, and what’s cool about it is the “universal” feature, which basically allows you to add an item to your list from any other website. In addition, your guests do NOT have to order from Amazon only. Since it is more of a collection of items, the Amazon registry allows them to purchase from whichever store they choose and it will still update your Amazon list. It’s Amazing!

I liked BB&B much more that Macys,
I think they have variety of many things, but maybe that’s because I’m a beige/blue/green kinda gal. . .BTW: I think they do have fiesta ware, at least i can see it online. . .
Sadly our amazon registry didn’t get to live as we were getting closer to the wedding. . .not everyone is as internet savvy as I thought :(
