A Dress to Diet For…

Wedding Dress Dreams…Every Girl Has ‘Em!

It might sound foolish, but I have this little wish. More than having beautiful decorations, good food, or rockin’ music, I want people to look at me when I step into the garden for our ceremony and think, “Wow! She’s a beautiful bride!”

There have been so many times that I didn’t feel beautiful in front of Mr. Brooch, whether it was because I was sick, had no makeup on, or whatever. We’ve all had those times we didn’t feel our best. I think women in serious relationships deal with this a lot because logistically there’s not enough time (or patience) to put yourself together to perfection when you live with someone and see them every day (at least not for me). Nevertheless, Mr. Brooch has always told me I am beautiful. He loves me more without makeup and in sweats than when I’m dolled up in jeans and heels. Of course, this means a lot to me, and it’s one (of the many) reasons I love him.

Ooh, Ahhh…

With that said, I want others to see me they way he does, especially on our wedding day. There will be people there that we don’t see very often and that we haven’t seen in years. My wish is that they’ll walk away thinking, “Wow, that’s a beautiful couple!” I’m not really worried about what my family will think of Mr. Brooch because I am convinced they will adore him (and plus, he always looks good, haha). But I am more concerned with the impression I give his family and friends. I want them to see something beautiful in me.

Of course, every bride wants this! Every bride wants to look her best and feel amazing on her wedding day, duh! Especially during that moment when all eyes are on her. Therefore, I know I am in good company. I know there are experts out there, wonderful bridesmaids, and other bride-entourage members (like the hair and makeup team) that will work to make this happen.

A One, and Two, And Three, and Four…

I’ve got to do my part, though. I know it sounds like a cliché, and I wish I didn’t have to say it, but my number one goal is to lose weight. It’s not that I am dissatisfied with body, but I am going to look back on these pictures forever! Not only that, but I want to feel comfortable on my wedding day and beautiful every day of my honeymoon. For me, it doesn’t matter what Mr. Brooch says; it’s all about how I feel.

To get to where I want to be physically, I’m going to need constant motivation! This dress, which I’ve seen a thousand times in dozens of bridal magazines, is a dress to diet for! I envision myself wearing it quite often (envision a skinnier me wearing it, actually, lol). It’s very much my style because I like sleek, somewhat plain dresses, but with a little sparkle. It’s elegant and modern, and definitely unique.

But…

There is absolutely no room for back fat or flabby arms in this gown!

You know what that means…it’s time to get to work.

I have no doubt that thoughts of this dress will give me the power to turn down dessert and go an extra 15 minutes on the elliptical! What do you think?

I lost weight for the wedding, over 20 pounds. I wish I could lose more because I’m quite flabby still, especially in my arms, but it’s proving to be impossible. I think it’s completely normal for people to want to look their best so more power to you! That dress is gorgeous btw!

That is a beautiful dress! I’m trying to stay motivated for exercising, not so much for the wedding but just to feel better about myself.

I had every intention to work out religiously for the wedding. But yeah, that has NOT happened! I haven’t been since May! I’ve been losing weight due to working 2 jobs and stress and what not, but my arms are not where I wanted them to be! oh well…That dress is awesome and you’ll look great it in I’m sure!

Your dress is very very pretty. I’ve just spent the whole day arguing with myself about how upset I’ll be if I don’t at least make a real effort for my dress! I even went specifically to try on a few plus sized dresses, hoping I’d be so horrified it’d jazz up my motivation! It’s so hard. Twenty six weeks til the dressmaker gets at me with her measuring tape, thirty five weeks til 180 people see me in it! And you know what else? I’d really really like a little frilly bit of nothing bra, rather than a great big feat of engineering! Feck it, let’s do this! I’m whining about my weight TWELVE bloomin’ years now. If I’d lost less than half a pound a month from then, i’d have nothin to give out about! Haha!
Hey sorry for the rant, you’re a good lookin girl, and you’ll be a gorgeous bride regardless of weight!
If you find a magic motivation potion, tho, don’t be secretive with it lol !!

I’ve lost 10 pounds so far, with five weeks till the wedding…I motivate by putting my dress on every now and then and admiring myself in the mirror, thinking about what I like best about my body (not least). When I feel that whole “Why bother?” feeling, I make a cup of green tea. I’ve had so much freakin’ green tea that I’m surprised my face isn’t green, but it works for me. The tea makes me feel healthy and calm, and I. put. down. the. chocolate.

I love reading all of your comments! @aunt pol: Bring on the rant! I’m right there with you! Thank you for your compliment, but believe it or not, I’ve struggled with my weight for 10+ years as well. @mundaetraversa: CONGRATS! 10 lbs is a lot of weight and your green tea method sounds promising!! You should be really proud of yourself.

I lost a lot of weight and it was totally worth it! Not only did I look and feel BEYOND my best on my wedding day, I looked great in a bikini for our honeymoon. Of course, I was careful and lost slowly with diet and excersize which is an added bonus because I have more energy now and I’m not as much at risk of gaining it back!

I’ve had my final fitting, so no more weight loss for me. But I am still focused on toning the arms. Push-ups? Yes please!

First off that dress is definitely work dieting for, it is GORGEOUS!!! My FH and I just started P90x in hopes to tone up before the wedding. I’m not as concerned with the dress (thanks to whomever invented corsets) but I keep thinking about our beach honeymoon and that keeps me going!

A girl I know just wore that dress! It’s beautiful!

Our wedding is a DW so I’m trying to remember how many people will see me in a swimsuit… and I still don’t have my figure fully back after having our son. sigh. 7 weeks left… I can still do something, right? :)

Beautiful Dress. I decided last September to lose weight - not for the wedding but for myself. I wasn’t a huge person by any means but I knew I could look and feel better. From September to March I lost 40 pounds and have managed to keep it off. It feels so good to be healthy and feel great. Looking great on our wedding day is of course an added bonus. If your looking for a good support system when it comes to losing weight try sparkpeople. It’s free and it’s how I did it. I absolutely loved it! And there are Bride to Be groups ;-)!

That dress is stunning! Love the back.

I’m a big proponent of Weight Watchers. It’s really all about portion control and making smart choices, and the weekly meetings really help keep me grounded and on track. As my WW leader says, “It’s not a diet, it’s a live-it,” which is so true.

Also, weight lifting is key! Diet and cardio will make you smaller, but lifting weights will help tone!

I love the back of that dress! I am not on a diet for the wedding, but I have definitely pushed myself to exercise regularly.

I think regardless of whether you lose the weight or not, you will be a beautiful bride: you’re wearing a stunning dress, and you’ll have a smile on your face. :-)

I’ve lost a couple of pounds for the wedding, but really haven’t been trying too hard- even though I need to lose about 50lbs to be at my target weight (which I’m going to work towards AFTER the wedding) my dress fits perfectly, and I really can’t afford expensive alterations. I’m happy that I only spent $30 on alterations, since I only needed the gown bustled- the length and the bodice were perfect.

I lost around 30 lbs by doing Weight Watchers before we even got engaged. I started out around 170 (which, at 5′1″ I was getting pretty big) and I decided for myself that it needed to stop.

I’m SO glad that I did! I’m still not where I want to be (I have about 15 more lbs to go) but I did it for me, not for my wedding, and I already look better than I have in a LONG time.

That being said… I have engagement pictures/ordering my dress coming up in about 6 weeks, so lord knows I’m hitting the gym extra hard until then!

PS-If you don’t mind me asking, who is the designer of that dress?

I’m not dieting *for* the wedding but I’m striving to get to a healthier weight, I put on a lot of stress weight a couple summers ago and I would love to get rid of that. Like you said, it is how you feel, and when I was able to wear the jeans I wore before that summer I felt better (part of it is just psychological in that I am dealing with that summer.)
