Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).

The Shoes Have Arrived…Gasp!

September 5th, 2010 @ 11:35 am by Mrs. Hippo

In case you missed it, I mentioned my quest to find the perfect navy blue, sassy shoes here. When they finally arrived, I was thrilled. I love, love, love them! HOORAY! They are more blue than navy, but I think the darker jewels on them make up for it. Here’s a real picture of them actually on my feet (please excuse the not-so-fresh toenail polish).

I really do adore them, but I have a couple of concerns:

  1. Heel height: I wear heels nearly every day, but these are pretty effing tall! I don’t think it’s a deal breaker, though. King Hippo is six feet tall, and I’m five foot six (OK…five foot five and a half!), so he still ends up taller than me. I think they just might take some getting used to.
  2. Slipping: The bottoms of the heels are really slick, but I think some scuffing to the bottoms will clear that right up.
  3. Comfort: They are four-inch heels, so I don’t expect them to feel like Uggs. Someone suggested I get these shoe inserts, which I’m told will make them immensely more comfortable and will prevent my foot from slipping forward later into the evening.

Has anyone tried these? Will they make my four-inch heels manageable for the wedding and reception? Please say yes…

Either those or the long ones. I find that your foot will still slide a little with just the petals but the petals are great for cushioning the ball of your foot. I use both for my shoes. It provides extra cushioning but if you’re doing both you have to make sure you have broken your shoes in first and stretched it or else it’ll be too tight when you first put them both in. I had originally thought it was too tight with both so switched it with just the petals but now that it’s broken it, my feet are still sliding and I’ve put both in again and it’s great.

Those are so pretty! I would suggest having a comfortable pair waiting in the wings, just in case you start feeling your feet halfway through the reception. The last thing you want to be doing is thinking about pain at every step rather than the moment. I had a fabulous pair I recently wore for an event and 3 hrs into the night, I was really wishing I had done something a little more sensible, LOL.

Wow! Those shoes rock! I haven’t tried the petals, but I heard they’re great. Nice choice! Oh, and who is going to be looking at your nails with those shoes on?

If you’re worried about the shoes slipping I highly recommend this product. A friend on mine bought them for herself and her maids and the heart shape made for cute pictures. I had no problems with slipping on the dance floor and ended up not needing to change into the reception shoes I had set aside.

Killer shoes! Foot petals will definitely help, especially if the sole is either too hard or too thin (although in this case too thin isn’t going to be a problem). I use them in my tango shoes (super thin sole) and they make my 4″ heels feel like the 3″ ones I wear to work very day.

Fab shoes, hottness! I used those inserts with my 4.5″ e-picture shoes and they sucked! The reason why they sucked was because they made the toe box smaller, so it pushed my toes into the straps. So that’s what I would be careful about. You’d have to break in the shoes quite a bit to loosen them so the inserts have room. I wore 4.25 inch heals on my wedding day, ALL DAY.. and never had to take them off. They hurt at the end of the night, but I was still ok wearing them. It’s totally possible. Like you, I wear heals all the time.

There are also things you can stick onto the bottom of the sole of the shoe to make them non-slip. I highly recommend them over just trying to scuff the shoes. It gives more stability. They look fabulous!!

Great Shoes :) .. I would definitely recommend the foot petals, because do not forget, you will be on your feet for 70% of the day, so you want the shoes to be as comfortable as possible, and anything spongy will definitely help that, and those foot petals look good enough to do the job :)

Yowza. They look great. I’d say wear ‘em around your house for a bit to try them out. I’ve never tried the petals, but if you say they work after your wedding, I’ll have to go buy some.

I used the Dr Scholls High Heels pads and they were great, definetly recommend some type of padding for high heeled shoes!

And on that note, those shoes are FIERCE!

Those are gorgeousssssss! As I understand it, the hive loves foot petals. If you do a search for them here I’m sure you’ll find reviews. Let us know if they work out for you because I need a high heel solution too!

I have a pair of these in every high heel shoe that I wear. And I wear high heels to work everyday. They are wonderful. And there are something items that this company makes that will help you with anyother high heel or strapy sandal that you may have.

Your shoes are amazing

They really made my killer (literally, sadly) heels bearable.
