Heart Strings? Officially Pulled.

September 6th, 2010 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Pin Cushion

Perhaps a few of you have seen this video already. But if you haven’t, pull up a wagon full of Kleenex and have a watch. Don’t let the cartoon aspect of it lull you into a false sense of security. This video is about love. Love that will make you cross all of your fingers and toes and wish that 27 years after your own wedding, your marriage will be as strong as the couple’s in the video.

Danny & Annie from StoryCorps on Vimeo.

I feel lucky to work as an oncology nurse where I get to see the amazing strength of marriage every day.

The love and compassion that is shared between our patients and their spouses is inspiring. I wish that every couple could have their story told like Danny and Annie, because I am certain that there are amazing love stories going on all around us every day.

Where in your life do you see true love?

Wow. Seriously needed the tissues - thought you were exaggerating. What a sweet story - I hope in 27 years the FI and I are as devoted as those two.

My parents remind me of what it means to be truly in love every time I visit them. I am going to go share this with my mom now.

Thanks for the post.

I start nursing school in a few weeks and I know that I will be faced with difficult situations and death all the time. Its great to see this video to remind me that the love in a marriage can be so strong through the end! *Sniffle sniffle*

@tiffinapit: Congrats on starting nursing school! I guarantee you will have as many funny stories from nursing as you will have sad stories.

I’m glad I’m not alone with the crying over the video!

I missed the fact that you were an onc nurse…me too. I completely agree, cancer not only shows the strength of marriage bonds but of that of the whole family. I just looove our patients and their families.

Lovely. I am a speech therapist on a brain injury unit and seeing young spouses working together through rehab is amazing. And my own amazing parents who have been married 36 years.

Yep, definitely sobbing! You’re right though; thanks for reminding me that it’s a privilege to see the things I see working in healthcare. We get to see people during very intimate and vulnerable times, and that’s something to be valued. Also, in a world where true love is questioned and naysayers love to shove the divorce rate in happy people’s faces, it’s a great reminder that real love is the most powerful thing in the world. Awesome post :)

I heard that story when it first came out on NPR, and it STILL makes me tear up all these years later. It is awesome.
