I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

Coffee, Anyone?

September 6th, 2010 @ 9:55 am by Mrs. Brooch

We love coffee.

We drink it at midnight. We love it after dinner. And, of course, we have to have it first thing in the morning. Why not have it at our wedding? I don’t think this is an unusual request. Of course there’ll be coffee at the reception, but what kind of coffee? We want something top notch…something unique…something like a Starbucks kiosk and barista on duty!

I doubt that would happen, but hey, we can ask, right? I’m definitely going to have to give this idea of a unique coffee bar more thought and probably talk to our wedding planner and caterer about it. I guess I just want something more than the typical urns. We could have syrups, a variety of flavors, and whipped cream.

What do you think? Do you have any ideas on how we can serve coffee in a non-traditional way?

Please share…

I think that the coffee bar would be a great idea. You could add signs, “recipes” in frames telling people how to make specific drinks - like both of your favorites. Ie. A latte, americano, etc.

If it’s just coffee, maybe have signs with how you each like your made -

2 pumps vanilla, splash of milk, fill w/ coffee. enjoy!
or
1 packet sweet & low, 2 creamers, and top with 3 stir sticks

Ok, I loooooove those “I do” “me too” coffee mugs - adorable! Any idea where to get those? As far as the coffee bar goes, a restaurant down this way uses a dish of rock candy instead of sugar to sweeten coffee and tea. They have a mix of bright colors, but you can find it online in any color you want and either in bulk rocks, or on sticks. We plan on doing this, plus putting out some alcohol for spiking. Yum!

We are having a coffee and cordials bar at our wedding reception! It will feature international coffee, with fun mix-ins like rock candy stir bars! Also, after dinner cordials will be featured - many of which are perfect mixed with coffee!

We’re having coffee at our wedding–and getting the rock candy sticks to use as sugar stirrers.

We’re doing this! It was one of the very first things I wanted. We have a great local coffee shop that has a “mobile unit” that they can take to different events and make basically anything you can get at a coffee shop. It serves kind of like an open bar where they keep track of what’s ordered and we pay later. They’re giving us really discounted rates on the drinks since they will be in smaller cups and we’re ordering so many.

As a Starbucks barista, I can tell you that Starbucks probably won’t be able to do something like this, unfortunately. I know I would love to work at a wedding, though. ;)

I looked at a couple caterers in my area that do this. They called it a “European coffee service.”

My friend had an espresso bar provided by her caterer- it was awesome. She was even on a tight budget and made it work :)

I bet you could have legit Starbucks. You could probably hire a barista freelance. Some baristas are students looking to make extra cash.

We bought those mugs for our wedding in Oct ‘09. They made an appearance in our reception pics too. I bought them at Hallmark (and they were actually half off, so I’m assuming they’d been there for a while.)

Do you have any locally owned coffee shops near you? I think there’s probably a better chance that they may be interested. For a small business, the opportunity to serve that many guests coupled with the increased exposure to their business may be too good to pass up. Plus, to me, a local shop will feel more unique and original any way. Give some local shop owners a call and see if they have any ideas for you!

We are having a coffee and hot chocolate bar!!!! We are having flavors, etc. to put in the drinks. We are also getting married in January, so it fits, since it will be very cold, etc. We are getting it through our Caterer. I didn’t want to have a signature cocktail, so this kind of takes the place of that. We are serving alcohol, just beer and wine.

I love coffee, Mr. G is not so hot on it. We’ll definitely be putting out our coffee machine towards the end of the night just in case anyone wants some. A Starbucks kiosk would be amazing though. If I see any unique options around the Internetz I’ll let you know!

Mmmm a coffee bar! I would LOVE this. However, I am one of the most coffee-loving people I know (and FI doesn’t drink the stuff! Or at least, he only does when he reaaaalllllly needs a little boost!), so I don’t think a coffee bar at our wedding would be practical. We will be sticking to a traditional coffee machine/pot somewhere. Oh but I love this idea!

Love the mugs!!

Make your own Coffee Buffet… You could have different types of syrup (check Marshall’s or TJ Maxx for a good deal - they normally have some), different flavors of creamers, cinnamon, chocolate, sprinkles (why not?), cool whip, caramel sauce, nutmeg, marshmallows, fresh mint, different types of sugar, you could even do one thing of hot chocolate in case people don’t like coffee. label everything with nice labels and it will look great!
