Ms Seahorse, Boston Age and Occupation: 25, Veterinary Jane-of-all-trades Fiancee's Age and Occupation: 36, former non-profit fundraiser in search of something better Engagement Date: October 17, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Fort Pond Lodge About Me: By day I'm a cat-wrangler, vet tech assistant, pet-sitter, receptionist, and pre-vet student, but the rest of the time, I'm a former-roller-derby girl turned dedicated-wedding planner. I love reading, writing, bicycles, animals, roller skating, and antique-y things of all sorts. I'm a vegetarian who likes spicy foods, while Fiancee Seahorse is a meat eater who does not like spices. We live outside Boston with our menagerie: a fifty pound dog, a one-eyed, seventeen-toed, toothless cat, and a perfectly put together cat who has a penchant for pooping near rather than in her litter box. In addition to planning our small lake-side wedding, we enjoy running around with the puppy, playing board games (Scrabble, anyone?), having little adventures, talking about how we should really clean the house more, and maintaining our little garden of vegetables and wedding flowers.
About Ms Seahorse

A Few of My Favor(ite) Things, Part 2

September 6th, 2010 @ 3:50 pm by Ms Seahorse

With less than two weeks to go until our wedding, we’re a little bit crazed. Funny story: I also started Organic Chem classes on Thursday, which now take up four days a week in reviews, class, and lab. Yay, let’s get busy!

So, we’re scrapping a lot of details. Pie-topper, what? Really, who cares—right now the ceremony is far more important, and absolutely one of the things we should figure out, like, yesterday. In the midst of all this craziness, I will bring you some of what has already happened; recaps of this whole planning process, full of pictures and light on the deep thoughts from yours truly. Enjoy!

So I talked recently about one of our three favor options, and here is our second: tea. I’ve talked a little bit about tea as a favor before, but we hadn’t figured out quite what to do with it. We’d considered some sort of blend, but weren’t sure what kind…and then we went camping in New York and came across The Tea Shop of Woodstock. Swoon.

They had THE most amazing tea selection, along with everything else you might want, including amazing tea timers. You never knew you needed one, but you desperately do, trust me. In fact, I need one. You can buy me one if you’d like.

Genius. (source)

Anyway, they also had samples, and we settled pretty quickly on Lavender Earl Grey. Who knew such a thing existed and was so delicious?! On top of that, much of our initial bonding/dating involved selling lavender products for work, and lavender will forever remind me of being mildly nauseated by the excessive smell that surrounded us in our first few days of being together. In milder versions, it is just wonderful.

So, we bought a whole lot of lavender Earl Grey, and here’s what we did with it:

Supplies: loose tea, tea bags, jars, measuring spoon

A Few of My Favor(ite) Things, Part 2 : wedding boston diy favors 4 4

Lavender tea = so pretty!

Tea and unbleached tea “satchels”

A Few of My Favor(ite) Things, Part 2 : wedding boston diy favors 6 6

Fancee measuring tea into satchels; in front of her are filled satchels

A Few of My Favor(ite) Things, Part 2 : wedding boston diy favors 7 7

Five satchels bunched together

A Few of My Favor(ite) Things, Part 2 : wedding boston diy favors 8 8

Stuff them into little mason jars…

Success!

A Few of My Favor(ite) Things, Part 2 : wedding boston diy favors 10 10

And wait ’til you see how pretty these little guys turn out in the end…

Next up: the third favor, and how we prettified everything!

Did you put a lot of manual labor into your favors? I think we were drunk on the smell of lavender for the rest of the day. Which favor would you pick?

I love Earl Grey tea, but have never tried lavender. Now I’ll be on the look out.

ooooo good luck with ochem. I had a love-hate relationship with that class. I didn’t know you were a student. Are you a science major?

As someone that survived 3 semesters of O-Chem in college, can I just say how impressed I am that you are taking that on in the final wedding countdown?!!

@Inkypoo: if you are EVER in upstate NY, i would highly recommend visiting them. they were so nice, had a ton of samples, and i just wanted to live in the store.

@Miss Lioness: and so cute, right? my usual tea-steeping “timer” goes something like, “Hmm I put the teabag in about 10-30 minutes ago, it’s probably ready…”

@crayfish: ugh, we’ll see if I make it. The first lab is the Saturday morning before the wedding… hanging on, hanging on…

@TheFutureMcBride: and here is where the multitasking comes in… what you can’t see in these pictures is the movie we’re watching at the same time! I’m terrible at sitting still for a whole movie (must…be… productive…), so I roped Fancee in for the productivity, and she roped me in for the movie. Plus, who doesn’t want to sit around smelling lavender and tea for an hour? NO ONE.

@mrs-to-be: we got them at the grocery store, in the section for jarring/canning… I felt a little fraudulent buying them for crafts though :)

Oh that’s double neat! Prolly saved you a good penny as well, it seems that as soon as something gets labelled DIY they up the price, too.

We are planning our honeymoon to the USA (we’re from The Netherlands) and I am so bringing an empty suitcase so I can stock up on all kinds of stuff from your stores ;-)
