What to Walk In?

September 7th, 2010 @ 3:08 pm by Mrs. Elephant

I’m no Carrie Bradshaw. I do not have an obsession with shoes. In fact, I probably have less than seven pairs that I wear on a regular basis, and two of those are flip flops. I can never really get over the pain of cute shoes enough to wear them to work, so I try to stick with flats, or boots in the winter.

Knowing my normal non-interest in shoes, Mama Elephant was pleasantly surprised when I said that I wanted some awesome blue heels for the wedding. I love looking at wedding pictures where the bride has a little color hidden under her dress, and the blue heels can also count as my something blue! Below are some pictures I’ve found online when Googling blue shoes:

As we all know, shoes can be a bit pricey, so I’ll be looking for styles like the ones above, but of course at a good price! Since I probably won’t last all night in heels, I’ll probably also look for a pair of blue flats to change into after the first dances.

Will you be changing into a second pair of shoes to dance at your reception?

At the reception? Heck, right after the ceremony, as we were gathering for family pictures, I ditched my shoes and sent a bridesmaid to grab my flip-flops… the first few pictures I was barefoot. (though not visibly). I don’t know why my shoes were so painful - I think my feet were more swollen that day than usual, and they were just killing me. And we’d gotten some cute shoe pics before the ceremony, so it was all good. :P

@mak418: HAHA, that’s what I’m hoping for, cute pictures before the ceremony, comfort from there on out!

The only time I would switch into a reception shoe is if we had to the wedding and reception in different places. I would not sacrifice my suede-soled dance shoes to the outdoors. The dancing to me is more important then cute shoes for the ceremony- though I think my shoes are fairly cute so I’ll just stand for 45 minutes in the 3″ monsters so I don’t have to struggle with them between.

I love the idea of having colored shoes under my white dress. I am having a little hard of a time finding a cute pair of flats that I deem worthy of a wedding. Since my fiance isn’t more than an inch or two taller than me, I don’t want to wear heels and tower over him.

ha I will be in bare feet as soon as the ceremony is over. The reception venue has heaps of beautiful grass and my comfort zone is wearing no shoes so off they go!

Definitely! I’m going to have colored shoes under my dress too (purple ones!) and I’m going to change into some cute flats or possibly tennis shoes after we take pictures! (:

Love the shoe options!! I’m searching for teal heels to sport under my gown. :) I’m sure I’ll bring along a pair of flip flops for the reception but I’ll be trying to tough it out at least through the first dance.

I am also doing blue heels: Badgley Mischka Randall Blue. They are supposed to arrive in the mail today — I can’t wait! They are close to four inches so I think I’ll take your lead and also look for flats. ;-)

Miss E! rocket dog (Rocket Dog Shoes, Orient Pumps) makes awesome blue shoes. I ordered them online and they were super-de-dooper comfy (3.75 inches are not high enough for me though)

I wore the Nina heels above, the ones with the ankle strap, and changed into flip flops later. I wore the heels during formal photos, the ceremony, and the cocktail hour, and switched to flip flops for the reception and our crazy photo adventure (involving climbing boulders and standing in streams).

I think I’m definitely going to have a back-up pair. I would love it if I could wear mine all night, but I’m a little worried that won’t be an option.

@misschristinec@hotmail.com: Those are cute shoes!

@jacin10: You must be able to see the future (or past lol). That’s exactly where I ended up going for my shoes!

I’m a flats girl all the way so I’ll be in just one pair of them the whole time. I will love them madly though!

I have two pairs of shoes too! My ceremony shoes are pretty low, so I could probably dance in them…buuuut then I wouldn’t have an excuse to buy two pairs of shoes ;)

Love the blue! I am going to try and suffer through my heels all night. Hopefully some gel inserts and a few drinks will help me through.
