Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

Invitation Inspiration

September 7th, 2010 @ 2:38 pm by Mrs. Brooch

A package deal…

The time is quickly approaching for us to send out our save the dates and start developing our invitations. We don’t even know where to begin when it comes to our invitations, but we do know that we want to make them—yes, make them ourselves.

Below are handmade invitations created by Mrs. Duckling and Mrs. Gloss. They did a darn good job, if you ask me, and I want ours to be just as comprehensive. To accomplish this, we’re going to follow the very helpful twelve-step guide to creating your own invitations, by Mrs. Cupcake—another bee with a lot of ideas and ambition!

We know we want our invitations to be more than greeting cards. We want little packages that will surprise our guests and get them excited about the event. Since we’re going to use our engagement photos for the save the dates, which have an autumn background, we want our invitations to have a hint of autumn as well. We don’t want anything too obvious, though. We want something simple and elegant with subtle fall elements—expressed in either the color or design.

Pick your favorites…

After searching Google and Esty, these are the invitations that caught my attention. I think we could recreate any of the following, using Mrs. Cupcake’s guide, and have a cohesive paper trail to our wedding…representing our venue, our colors, and our style.

Yay! Fall! Number 9 is gorgeous. Clean and fresh without all the extra “stuff” that can make an invite look dated (read: grandmotherish or 80’s retro-but-not-in-a-cool-way).

My favorites are #4 and #8. #6 is beautiful and I like the way #1 is folded with the leaf detail.

Are you going to be printing them yourselves? If so I recommend the Epson Artisan 710. It was the best wedding investment I made, did an amazing job and handled textured cardstock with no problems. You can even emboss with it (using fine powder) with ease.

Holy moly, I love ALL of those. And I don’t normally love all invites, but we are getting married in the fall to and those all totally rock our theme. I love number 5 the best, but 6 is awesome to!

Ohhh, I love number 5. Something about the tree is just really lovely. I think you can pull it off but if not you can always order! That’s what we wound up doing!
