Mrs. Spaniel's Picture
Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Calamigos Ranch About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
About Mrs. Spaniel

When people get frustrated with you and your crazy planning ways, they’ll condescendingly tell you that “it’s just a party” and you shouldn’t get all caught up in it (not that this happened to me, oh no… actually, I’m really not being sarcastic; I just hear it happens to a lot of brides) ;), you can tell them: Mrs. Spaniel says you’re wrong. Actually, don’t tell them that, because then they’ll really think you’re crazy. Who is Mrs. Spaniel? In any event, I know now that a wedding is not just a party, and I know that because it’s the part of the wedding about which I have the least to write.

I can honestly say, in hindsight, the most important part was the ceremony—it was the whole point. The most rewarding parts were the speeches our friends and family made—we had a wedding because we wanted to share this momentous occasion with our community, and feeling their love coming back at us made it worth it. The party? It was fun.

In fact, it was a lot of fun.

This Will Be Our Year: This Is Not Goodbye : wedding los angeles pictures pro pics recap Singing

(I think Mr. S was singing Jai Ho here, which is a few kinds of awesome.)

This Will Be Our Year: This Is Not Goodbye : wedding los angeles pictures pro pics recap Dancing02 But then it wound down, and then it was over. Eighteen months of planning, three days of activities, and eight hours of event…done. So fast!

It was a wonderful day and I’m so grateful that we got to have it, to share it with our friends and family, and that I was able to share it with all of you. I’m ready to say goodbye to our wedding, but not to Weddingbee… I still have a few nuggets of wedding wisdom I want to share before I sign off as Mrs. Spaniel for good. So, for the moment, I’ll let Grandma Spaniel say goodbye instead.

Haha - bye Grandma Spaniel! (Love that photo). I feel the same about our wedding - I’ve written so many recaps up ’til now about prep and the ceremony, but I feel like I could summarize the rest in like two posts: toasts, and partying! (Of course being long winded I’m sure I’ll drag it out to like 10 posts, but still). I’m sad your photos are done too, I’ve loved seeing your wedding!

I love your comments. I totally agree with them. I have been known to speak up at friend’s weddings when I hear someone whining about the big deal wedding. I’m an only child. My wedding is the one major event in my life that my whole family — my dad’s side, and my mom’s side and my friends will all be invited to celebrate the big event. The last gathering of that whole group was my parent’s wedding and I wasn’t there.

Grandma Spaniel is awesome!!!! Glad you’re not “leaving leaving” — that would be too sad.

As a gap that’s already married (6 months as of today!) I’m not sure if I’ll enjoy the ceremony or the party more. It’ll be nice to have a ceremony because our marriage process was so boring (”sign here, here and here please”) but I’m also very excited to celebrate and introduce Mr. G as my husband to my family and friends. Looks like you had a lot of fun partying! Looking forward to your words of wisdom!
