So I know that a lot of brides carefully grow their hair out for the wedding and then chop it all off afterward, known as the Post Wedding Chop. But I need a Pre-Wedding Chop baaaaaaaadly. Here’s a little secret, hive—and lean in close because I’m embarrassed: I haven’t had my hair cut in almost a year. Gross, you nasty girl, what is wrong with you? I KNOW! The last time I got a cut I plopped myself down in the chair and said in my best Japanese, “Cut about this much!” English-speaking hairdressers are few and far between here and the ones that do speak English cost upwards of $60. I am a no fuss, no muss kinda gal and I love me some Supercuts. It was time to break the split-end cycle, so in order to get EXACTLY what I need and not just a trim, I sought out a hairdresser student of mine who speaks English relatively well.
I want to keep my length for the wedding. My hair is long because I haven’t cut it since last year, and I wasn’t about to lose that. But I wanted to do something different and pretty instead of my usual trim. I was thinking about long layers.

I figured the long layers could help me maintain my length while giving my hair some style and edge. I also debated bangs.

No bangs? Bangs? Side bangs again? I had been growing out my bangs for quite a while and almost had them to the point that they would stay back in a ponytail. Bangs are SERIOUS. BUSINESS. Whether or not I have them for the wedding can drastically change my image- just look at Vanessa Hudgens!
Armed with a goal of long, dramatic layers and leaving the Great Bang Debate up to a student of mine who happens to be a hairdresser, I went in.
My before shot. Yes, I really did let my hair get that bad!
The after! It’s still a little damaged because I didn’t want to lose my length; I’m going to start a deep conditioning treatment once a week and use a heat-protection serum when I iron or curl it. It’s a lot thinner because my student-stylist thinned it out, and a lot of the flyaways are gone. So there’s my pre-wedding chop solution: long layers and thinning out, plus a deep conditioning mask once a week! My bangs were cut long enough that they can be pushed to the side. Which do you like better, hive, bangs or no bangs?
I really can’t wait to get a post wedding chop and do something crazy. If I’ve got the length I’ll definitely donate to Locks Of Love as well. Have you had a pre-wedding chop dilemma? Are you doing a post wedding chop?
