Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

Blueberries and Bling

September 8th, 2010 @ 12:25 pm by Mrs. Hippo

OK…just stick with me. I swear the title of this post will make sense soon enough! I realized that I hadn’t yet shared my bling with the hive, so without further ado…

But first, I have to give King Hippo credit. The man has great taste and style, and his choice of engagement ring for me was no exception. What’s interesting is that we had never talked about what kind of ring I would like. Never went window shopping together. Nothing. I casually mentioned at one time that I didn’t want a round center stone hoping that he didn’t think it was really a casual comment, but other than that, we really never talked about the ring that I would wear every day for the rest of my life. Little did I know that King Hippo was secretly searching the entire island of Manhattan for the perfect ring for me, and he found it!

Wanna see?!?

Wait for it…

Blueberries and Bling : wedding dallas photography rings Picture Picture

King Hippo surprised me with this cushion-cut center stone (aptly named because of its pillow-like shape) with a micro-pave halo and band. I absolutely adore it. The thin band is a perfect match for my long fingers, and it just kind of looks like it was made for me, if that makes any sense.

According to King Hippo, he was terrified that I wouldn’t love it since we hadn’t talked about what I liked in rings. How could I not love that beauty??! In the end, I think the fact that he picked it out without any influence or persuasion from me makes me love it even more. The thought of him ring shopping all over the city (and he apparently went all over the city!), looking for what he felt would be perfect for me, makes my heart smile.

Did you give your SO input on your ring choice? If not, how did he/she do?

FYI: I took my bling on a little blueberry photo shoot (for the dark blue to match our wedding colors, of course!) using tips from Anne Ruthmann’s tutorial.

GREAT job with the photo, and kudos to Mr. Hippo! My experience was similar - I had no input whatsoever, and yet my husband somehow managed to pick out a ring that I love more than any other in the world. Men can surprise us.

I pretty much picked out my ring, and I do regret that I gave so much input. I now realize it would probably be a bit more special if I let him do it on his own. But then again I am one picky girl when it comes to things I wear, jewelry, clothes, shoes, etc. So maybe me picking it out was better in the end. Your ring is gorgeous though!!

I emailed him an inspiration photo from Tacori and told him my ring size and that’s it! He ended up designing it and it came out perfect!

It’s beautiful! I was totally surprised too…. we didn’t try on any rings. My FI even snuck a ring I usually wear off my nightstand so my engagement ring was the right size when he gave it to me! :-)

I gave absolutely no input on the type of ring I liked. And - just like you Miss Hippo - I am enamored with my ring. If I been presented with 1 million rings, I believe I would have picked the one my Fi gave to me. None of my friends or family helped him…he did it on his own. I couldn’t be happier!

Love your ring and your creativity in showcasing it! My ring was a total surprise, too and I love mine. We had talked a bit more about style and shape, but I love that my Mr. picked it out all on his own. I know he feels pride about that fact, too.

So pretty!! I also have a cushion cut :). Though mine is more square shaped.

Alas, Mr. Berry pretty much forced me to pick out my own ring. He refused to select anything on his own, even though I showed him various types that I liked and told him to go for it. He was scared to death he’d pick something out that I didn’t like (silly boy! I’d like anything he picked, because he picked it!).

Gorgeous ring! I’m a fellow cushion-cut girl myself! I’d never heard of it until my now-husband proposed with it! I had mentioned that I wanted a low-profile ring with round diamonds. But he felt this was more me, and bought it (with the option to exchange if I hated it). Naturally, I loved it, and even moreso because he picked it, and thought it was perfect for me, and he was right! =)

That ring is beautiful. My man and I went ring shopping together. I really wanted a vintage look and he really didn’t know what I was talking about. We were amazingly lucky, the first ring I tried on at the first shop we went to was the one. It is perfect and I love it.

your ring is sooo gorgeous! I had wanted something similar, but Mr. S surprised me with something totally different that I love. I looked at tons of halo rings and I’ve honestly never seen one this gorgeous. Mr. Hippo did an awesome job!
