Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Waltz This Way…

September 8th, 2010 @ 12:48 pm by Mrs. Locket

This past weekend among the flurry of craftivities (yup, crafting-activities), Mr. L and I decided to take a break and teach ourselves the Waltz.

And, what better way to find a Waltz lesson than on YouTube:

Despite his uncoordinated dancing abilities, Mr. L took pretty well to the YouTube instructional video and was soon dancing around the living room counting aloud, “1…2…3…1…2…3…1…2…3…” in what I think was a British accent (apparently the British like to Waltz).

I, on the other hand, wasn’t faring as well.

I kept tripping over my own feet and felt the need to move one foot instead of the other. Mr. L got a pretty good laugh out of watching me while I attempted to perfect the boxstep. Eventually I got the hang of things, but it was not without casualties…I accidentally stepped on Maple’s itty feet once or twice and heard the confirming yelp to prove it (why is it that little dogs like to walk under you?). Fortunately, she was fine and likely only yelped because she was scared to death of what she was witnessing. Either way, we decided that with nightly practice we could perfect (to the best of our abilities) the basic Waltz and showcase it on our wedding day. The only problem is that Mr. L doesn’t think the Waltz is fitting for our first dance song.

Be My Only, FM Radio:

Being the ever optimist, I think it works in some parts, but agree that the overall style is a bit too formal for our song. So what we are thinking is to have a cheesy standard high school style slow dance to our song and then transition into a song that is Waltz-worthy, surprising our guests with our waltzing abilities. OK—this is what we are thinking if things work out perfectly and we can actually comfortably dance the waltz. Neither of us wants to look like monkeys doing the two-step, so we are going to do our best to play it by ear.

Are you teaching yourself a dance for the wedding? What style have you chosen?

This is a fabulous idea! My FI and I wanted to take lessons (his idea might I add!) but lack of time, wedding stress, career stress, family stress, let’s just face it LIFE got in the way. lol. I never thought about YouTubing it but I think we may try this!

don’t take dance lessons. it was the biggest mistake we made and our first dance ended up looking horrible. we highly regret it!

Yes, i can confirm. I am British, and we love nothing more than a good waltz. Followed by a nice cup of tea. :)

I’d love to learn to dance for the wedding, but my beloved thinks it might be too girlie :(

FH and I are swing dancers (primarily Dean Collins Lindy but that’s a bit picky) so it’s not so much that we’re learning to dance, but we’re having two of our favorite local instructors choreograph two pieces for us.
However my parents and my brother are trying to learn how to dance and it’s the funniest thing. My brother is the most able of the three and he still looks a rather ungainly. :D

I really like your first dance song! Mr. E wants to take a couple of lessons just to feel comfortable, I need to get on that.

It is way cute that you guys are doing this! We aren’t having dancing at our wedding but I’d totally make Mr. G learn something with me. I’ll cross my fingers for ya so you nail the steps!
