E-Pics = A Reason to Shop

September 9th, 2010 @ 5:18 pm by Mrs. Hippo

One of the many things King Hippo and I have on our list of things to do when we are in Dallas next month is taking our engagement photos. I would have loved to have taken them sooner in the process, but we just selected our photographers during the last trip, and this is the first time we’ve been back since then (just another hassle of being an LDB).

I’m pretty excited to have professional pictures taken together, and if we get even a few that look like these, I will be ecstatic.

I’m in the middle of the same hunt! It’s a fun process of nerve-racking at the same time!! We only get one shot at these photos and I have high hopes… I’m thinking casual, chic for our urban set e-pics and laid-back, cuddly for our nature/outdoor e-pics. :) Good Luck!! Keep us posted!

My photographer suggested that we not wear white shirts because it washes out so easily, but the pictures you posted of the girl in the white shirt look fine to me! So, who knows.

I’ve seen photographer websites suggest that you should avoid prints because it detracts from something… http://studioworkstx.com/#faq

My photographer said avoid prints. Chris wore white and I wore black. Honestly, we look so happy in our pictures, I doubt anyone even looks at what we’re wearing.

Stay away from busy prints! I ended up wearing a tank dress with a print on the skirt part that were pretty simplistic flowers and it looks fine. I think the best advice would be to just stick with what you are comfortable in! I wear dresses all the time so I did a dress then black shorts, a white t-shirt, and a cute scarf!

I just did my e-session last weekend, and we picked outfits that we felt comfortable in, and that tend to look good in all positions. (I had tried on dresses that were pretty, but that needed constant adjusting of straps, etc.) Don’t be afraid to do your make up a LOT darker than you usually do, since cameras can wash you out anyway (especially outside). And high heels make your posture better and your legs look longer. :)

my photographer blogged about some good Fall/Winter outfits if anyone is doing their shoot later in the year. here’s the link: http://swparkerphotography.com/blog/?p=7799

We are actually doing ours in 2 weeks, and sticking to more “summer” clothes (sundresses, etc) considering it’s still in the 90s here in SC + I love summer clothes!

I highly suggest colors that stand out–I think bright is better than dark for adding contrast with your background. Coordinate with your fiance, but don’t match too much–again, good pictures are all about fun contrasts. Interesting textures are better than busy patterns.

I chose bright colors with interesting accessories–belts, headbands, cardigans…it’s about putting a “look” together that really makes me feel confident for photos! I definitely recommend bringing different accessories and making the outfit fun and visually interesting–really let your personality show through your clothes!

Dress for the weather! I was freezing in my outfit and wound up having to wear a heavy, not cute jacket over my carefully chosen outfit. And be as comfortable as you can without being casual- at second glance, I don’t like the jeans I was wearing and wish I would’ve at least worn black pants.

While I didn’t buy new outfits for my e-shesh (okay, new jeans), I have been using the WHOLE wedding as an excuse to shop. My day of reckoning is coming soon! I did a dress and then jeans/boots/button-down, both of which I was comfortable in. I also didn’t want to be too trendy, because that’s not me and more than anything, I wanted the pics to be a reflection of who we are (the best version).
