About Mrs. Plaid

Promises Forgotten

September 9th, 2010 @ 5:42 pm by Mrs. Plaid

I’m failure. There, I said it. I made all these promises to myself after I got engaged—promises to better myself and I’ve failed.

I promised myself that I would give up Dr Pepper. I’m kind of a Dr Pepper-aholic. I think I’m addicted. Seriously. I’ve tried to give it up. I think I got as far as a week without DP. I suck, I know. I’ve definitely cut back, but I just don’t see how I could ever give it up completely. I know it’s not great for me, my body or my teeth. Maybe someday…

I also promised myself that I’d lose weight for our wedding.

Well that didn’t really happen. Boo. I think I’ve toned up, so there’s that. And I do work out 2-3 times a week. I had all these grand plans of working out at least five times a week and losing at least twenty pounds. But you know, I’m happy with how I look. And I’m not just telling myself that. I love how I look and so does Mr. P.

So maybe I can’t hold true to any of my early engagement promises, but I know one promise I’ll be sure to hold true: I promise to love Mr. Plaid forever. I’m keeping that one.

Did you make any promises to yourself (with your wedding in sight) that you’ve failed to keep?

I’ve made plenty of wedding promises — mostly about getting my weight/skin/teeth color in order — that I have neglected to keep. Oh well, it’s too late now.

I told myself I wanted to get married with arms like Michelle Obama’s. Never really got around to it. I’m pretty okay with that.

You know I think those promises help get us through the early planning stages, but when we snap back to reality and are approaching our date, we realize that we’re fine the way we are. We’re all going to look gorgeous on our wedding days!
@SandraMarie_1986: Thanks!

Hooray! I think I had similar delusions about cutting back on diet dr p (for the whole tooth-staining thing) and that didn’t happen, and neither did the working out. But I was happy and felt good in my dress and the pictures were great — in the end, saving myself the stress and worry about whether i was or wasn’t holding myself to an arbitrary goal was a huge help (and I think relaxing helped me avoid stress-eating - ha!).

Oh yes! I’ve been wasting 10 dollars a month NOT using my gym membership (but it’s only 10 dollars…) I have lost weight though, but from the stress and stuff. So now I just kinda look like a loose bag of potatoes….ick. I bought some hand weights the other day to use in my room when I have spare time, so I can at least try to tone up the parts that will be showing on the big day! So whatev. It is what it is…and I don’t blame you for not giving up DP in all it’s glorious deliciousness!

Oh yeah I also said I was going to get a facial every month so my skin would look perfect for the big day! Well lemme tell ya, even working 2 jobs I have NOT had the luxury of doing that! I don’t know where I thought all this money would be coming from but I sure wish I had more of it :(

Oh I totally feel you there…I said I’d lose weight, but it didn’t happen. I’m a little disappointed because I probably could have tried harder, but I know that I’ll look good that day! And DP is amazingly good, so I don’t blame you there ;-)

You’re not alone! I’m already failing to keep quite a few, although I have a few months to make up for lost time, I might be singing the same tune!! Glad you feel good about YOU! That’s what matters :)

I want to tone up…maybe lose a few pounds. We will see how that goes haha!

I too LOVE DP! Love love love! I have actually found that Diet Dr. Pepper is the closest tasting diet soda when compared to the original of any soda I have had, so when I have cravings, I drink a Diet DP. Unless you are opposed to aspartame, it is a good sugar-less, calorie-free compromise :)

Regardless though - it’s great to feel good about yourself! So high five to you for that!

Aww . . . well I’m glad you’re happy with yourself now. I didn’t lose any weight before the wedding. Don’t feel like you need to just cause it seems like all other brides do!!

I wanted to lose 20 pounds and… I did! :D but I know why you mean. I’ve probably made so many promises that I’ve broken and cant even remember. But I hope I’ll always keep my promise to be a supportive, loving wife! Cute post!

I also want to lose some weight, since I gained during my time at school my senior year. Now that I am done, I have hit the gym HARD!

Also, I understand the Dr. Pepper habit. Diet Dr. Pepper is my poison of choice. I’ve been good, and gone three weeks without it and had almost abolished soda out of my diet forever, but then I picked up a bottle the other day and WHAM! I am back on my 3+ can a day habit. Oh well!

OMG!!! I’m addicted to Dr. Pepper too. I switched to Diet Dr. Pepper years ago and I still can’t start my day without one. Yes, it is my coffee. I’ve tried to quit…but not working. :)
I want to loose 20 lbs by December…my first dress fitting. I’ve planned to start Zumba classes since June and still have not made it yet. I put on my calendar to attend Monday. We’ll see how that goes. LOL
I fit my dress now but want to make sure I don’t gain any weight. I don’t feel pressured, just want to do it for me. My FI says I look great.

I <3 DP. Once in a while I’ll buy diet DP in an attempt to be healthier but that never lasts.
…On to the real question, I didn’t make myself any promises when we got engaged b/c I knew I wouldn’t live up to them (HA!). But I would like to tone up before the big day and have yet to pick up a weight. Sigh.

@DeaconBride: You should totally do Zumba. I’ve been doing it since January and it’s a blast. It doesn’t even feel like working out. You just get to dance around!

Thanks ladies for the nice words. It’s nice to know I’m not alone on this one. :)

Maybe switch to Diet Dr. Pepper? At least it won’t have the calories–and worse, the huge amounts of sugar–that regular has.
