Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
About Mrs. Locket

…finals week in college. As we near the end of our wedding planning chaos, I can’t help but think of how much my mind and body feels like it’s gone through a multi-week long journey of studying and prepping for that dreaded week of finals.

Sometimes Wedding Planning Feels Like… : wedding emotional ithaca End Of 1 end-of-

Source

Over the past few weeks, I’ve spent many late nights working on DIY projects and putting together lists (among countless other things) to prepare for the big day.

The wedding consumes my thoughts from dawn until dusk and when I hop into bed in the wee hours of the night I toss and turn while I try to put it out of my mind. My head is constantly spinning with questions, answers and to-dos and it feels just like it felt during the high-stress times in college.

I wake up in the early hours with my heart racing thinking that I must have something to do. I quickly realize that no, I don’t have an 8AM final with only hours left to cram or a last-minute paper to turn in; I have an 8-hour workday ahead of me followed by hours of DIY wedding prep. Here I am with 2.5 weeks to go and having flashbacks of college life, when O-chem and Cell Bio finals took every ounce of life and brain capacity from my tired body. The only difference now is that I actually enjoy the crazy amount of tasks I have at hand. Yes, they are time-consuming and both mentally and physically exhausting, but in the end I could not and would not do without. And, you know what the best part is? All this crazed planning and exhaustion ends with what will be (fingers crossed) a beautiful wedding and a week long honeymoon to the Maya Riviera with my husband by my side.

Until then, I am working my butt off and tying up all the loose ends all while trying to keep my sanity. Do any other brides feel this way? Does it sometimes feel like you are preparing for the biggest test of your life?

I was going to say, Hey now, it isn’t nearly that bad… but then I remembered the high similarity between my inability (unwillingness?) to make time for grocery shopping, cooking, and laundry in the last weeks before the wedding, and my similar situation during many finals weeks in the past. I dissolved into a state where a half a bag of potato chips was an adequate substitute for dinner, especially if there were no ingredients in the house. So okay, maybe. But hey, the wedding is SO much more fun than taking an exam. Like, so much you have no idea. Try to remember it’s a good thing!

I completly agree! I am so ready for this whole thing to be over. I’m totally over wedding planning, and wish I was eloping instead, but it’s pretty much a done deal, so gotta suck it up.

That is a great analogy. But . . . it’s a way better pay off than college because 1) you get to marry someone awesome and 2) unlike a final when you’re unsure of how you did, you’re going to be thrilled with your wedding. I promise!

To tell you the truth I haven’t felt stressed or very overwhelmed yet. And next month when we’ll be really in the thick of things, Mr. G and I will be unemployed with tons of friends and family who are willing to have things delegated to them, so I don’t think it’ll ever be so bad. I’m sorry you’re feeling this way but it sounds like you’re enjoying it a little so if it ever get to be too much, I’d step back, grab a drink and a friend and start fresh again!

I was with Miss Glasses up until this week. This week, people at work are asking me about the wedding & my response has been ” I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT!!!!!” I have 43 days to go, I hope this is just a phase, but I’m working overtime at work, have barely 1/2 the RSVPS and am just stressed out!

I hope it gets better for you Miss Locket! You’re almost through it :)

anyway, we passed college, right? we’ll pass this one too :) it’ll be awesome.

i agree, i said this countless times while going through my own wedding planning miseries….i pulled many all nighters in the name of my degree and in the name of my wedding. The week of the wedding was the worse.. i was dreaming praying and wishing for 98 hour days..just so i could get it all done.. it ended out coming out fine and you too will come out smelling like a rose..just may be a little wilted - best of luck!

@MissMusic: I honestly don’t know how you all do it!@bridesmomma: Yes I do! Thank goodness for all that carefully saved vacation time!
@tweds: It sounds like you have it worse than me! I couldn’t imagine preparing for such a big thing right before your wedding!@Mrs. Pin Cushion: That is the hope! I keep telling myself it will all be worth it in the end :)@Miss Glasses: You are a lucky gal! I started out calm and worry free thinking I had all the time in the world, but it tricked me ;) I put too much off thinking there would be time…ah well c’est la vie!
@Miss Seahorse: Ahhh the all nighters…I’m hoping I won’t have too many of them before the wedding!

Miss Locket - I’m right there with you. Your post really spoke to me, especially the part about the O-Chem/Cell Development finals we had in college. ;) I think the FI is the same way - he’s been having insomnia now that we’re in the last few days til the wedding.

I’m sending you some of my ‘devil-may-care’ attitude! With less than 5 weeks to go, I’m surprisingly calm. Weird!

Oh man, I did this too and after the wedding I wondered why I made myself suffer like I did. The wedding was amazing, but I wish I would’ve spent my time enjoying the summer.

You don’t have to stress yourself planning a wedding. You have to be confident and happy about it. I am also very passionate about my job as a planner and I am happy being tired of planning.
