Mrs. Hot Wings's Picture
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
About Mrs. Hot Wings

Spilling the Beans on Our Recaps

September 9th, 2010 @ 4:31 pm by Mrs. Hot Wings

Hive, I have a secret. I never talked about having a videographer at our wedding. Despite the fact that video was on the same priority level as photos, I haven’t written a single post on it. Why? Because the videographer that I had booked over 1 year before our wedding ended up not being able to work our wedding. Luckily for us, we had some big-time help from our fantastic coordinator Brenda Swann and the trouble vendors went away, leaving us to find new videographers a mere 2 months before the big day.

Video has been a top priority for us because we had a semi-destination wedding. One of Mr Hot Wings’ grandmas could not make it. My only living grandfather and my mom’s entire family lives in Vietnam. Only 3 people from Vietnam could join us for our wedding day. Countless friends from across the country couldn’t make it for various other reasons. Then there was the Big Fat Vietnamese American wedding situation that meant we had a growing guest list as the wedding day progressed. More specifically, the closer you are to the Hot Wings, the earlier in the day you were invited. Closest family and friends were at the tea ceremony, close family and friends were at the civil ceremony, and the reception included a wider net of my family’s Vietnamese kin network. Even though we didn’t invite some guests to earlier events, we wanted to share those events with them anyways. For all these reasons, we decided that a Same-Day-Edit Video would be essential. It would allow us to quickly share our day with loved ones at our reception as well as with those who could not make the trip to San Diego.

When we found OmniStories, we knew their style suited us. They are musical and absolute storytellers. Oh my gosh, did they ever tell our wedding day story! OmniStories are freaking ROCK STARS (yes, the kind that deserve all caps)! I could not be happier with this video. Ron, our lead creative director that day, seriously kicks butt! There are so many things I adore about this video. So. Many. Things! The music is perfect for us and totally works with the images he puts to it.

So hive, indulge me if you will. I would like to share our wedding same-day edit with you. I have not recieved all of our pro pics yet. There are no recaps coming yet. And there are more projects I need to share with you. But, I can’t hold out on you like that. Consider this my teaser for the recaps.

Nellie & Nick SDE || 08.21.2010 from OmniStories on Vimeo.

And on a total side note: Ron came to our rehearsal the day before the wedding and stood on the cliffs for over 4 hours to capture that first 5 second intro clip. Holy crap, that’s dedication. I had no idea we paid him to do such things. At our reception, Ron secluded himself in the back room editing like heck in order to showcase this video toward the end of the reception. I can’t believe he and his team did it! Amazing! So, if I haven’t said it yet, Ron Acost, Elgene Crescini, Chris Pferdehirt, and Kevin Donston… thank you for being our videography team and bringing us this video. We can’t wait to see what your team puts together for the full video!

Oh, hive! I can’t wait to share all the details of the day with you. I’ve watched the video over 10 times now, and it still makes me tear up every. single. time. It’s so crazy. I know how the story ends, but my eyes still well up. It truly makes me excited and joyous all over again! Teasers from our photog and this video has definitely cleared up my vision of our day.

Coming soon to a Weddingbee blog near you… The Hot Wing Recaps. Until then, keep watching the video and searching for the details I haven’t shared yet.

Hugs & kisses beautiful bees!

OMG. I love it. Love that you guys actually did the exchanging of gifts!!! Not many people especially in the US do it anymore. That was really neat!

I love how your video even captured a small detail like the tea pouring from the pot.

Sigh. Making me realize how crappy my last minute video is going to be. He def got no closeups of the qipao or the wedding dress hanging. Oh well. I had an awesome photog!

LOVE!! I think (upon watching this several times over, haha) one of my favorite parts is when you are in your tea ceremony dress and you take a deep breath and then we can see you say “Okay”. It’s like, all right - let’s do this! And then when you and your mom (?) are crying at the tea ceremony! Augh - too many favorite parts. I’ve said this before, but Hot Wings you are gorgeous! And Mr. Hottie lives up to his name :D

Wow~!

No really. Wow~!!

That is an AMAZING video! I cried. Really, I cried. It’s just so beautiful and you have to be so forever grateful and indebted to those that made it happen. It seriously made me want to revamp our entire budget and put 75% of ALL our funds toward a videographer.

Also, you looked GORGEOUS. I hope I look as fresh and flawless on my wedding day. Really, you looked beautiful :)

I’m calling Mr. B now to share it with him and make my case for a videographer!

Aren’t SDEs fantastic? I think that if our SDE were on a VHS tape, we would have already worn it to the point of breaking already, just between the number of times my mom and I have watched it - and our wedding was only six weeks ago. We similarly were excited about having a way to share the wedding day with loved ones who weren’t able to make it, and we’ve gotten a ton of lovely comments from relatives as well as some friends of our parents we didn’t invite (ie people we don’t know but who nonetheless know our parents well enough that they were interested in our wedding).

You were such a beautiful bride!

@Miss Brooch: Good luck - I had the same experience, compiling amazing wedding videos from the web to show my then-fiance, to make the case that it was worth it to fit videography into our budget. You can tell Mr. Brooch that my parents and husband now completely affirm that it was worth every penny! (Here’s ours… http://tinyurl.com/2ap72j5)

@SandraMarie_1986: We did the love letters and wine box ceremony. I’ll definitely do a post on it :)
@Gerbera: Don’t worry, it won’t be crappy. It’ll be the best video you’ve ever seen, starring the two most awesome people in the world, you and hubby :)
@Mrs. Guinea Pig: You’re so sweet Guinea! I absolutely love that they captured those moments. Some of the most memorable of the day for sure!
@Miss Brooch: You’re so sweet! Video was important to us, so we definitely budgeted quite a bit for it. But if you can swing it, I definitely recommend it. It brings the wedding to life in a whole different way. For us, it was incredibly important to capture the words that people say. Even though there are no words in this… it transcends language barriers! That’s the best part about this. Good luck with Mr. B!
@LittlestBirds: I sooo know what you’re saying. Love the advent of online!

What a beautiful video, and what a beautiful bride! I can’t wait to see your recaps.

I always thought wedding videography as kinda gimicky, but your video makes me want to have one now! Too bad I have no budget for it whatsoever.

You only watched it 10 times?! ;-) It’s awesome. And you know I’m all about the fusion weddings, so I particularly loved the emotion of the tea ceremony (and the procession!!).
