So Happy Together: The Rehearsal

September 10th, 2010 @ 1:22 pm by Mrs. Turtle

Who’s ready for some Turtle wedding recaps?? Well…ready or not, here they come!

So Happy Together: The Rehearsal : wedding central ca pictures recap 011 Photobucket

Rewind back to July 9, 2010: I was an absolute nervous wreck and had been feeling this way for some time. For the last couple of weeks, if anyone brought up a wedding-related concern to me, or even looked at me the wrong way, I would burst into tears and cry, “I hate the wedding!!”

It wasn’t marrying Mr. Turtle that I was so worked up about. It was whether my bridesmaids and I had time to finish the programs and how my makeup would turn out after my trial the day before that had made me just a little nervous. I remember being afraid that people would forget to show up to the rehearsal, and that a groomsman would forget his suit. An hour before the rehearsal, I still hadn’t finished the slideshow I was working on for the rehearsal dinner or the thank you cards for the wedding party. Our programs did not even work out how I’d planned, and despite my amazing bridesmaids staying up nearly all night with me in our hotel trying to finish them, I had to send my dad and brother to Kinko’s to copy off something that would “at least do the job.” I’d been in such a hurry all day long that I barely had time to get ready for the rehearsal and ended up going with wet hair! Where was the calm and collected, polished and poised bride that I had envisioned? This was not how I had pictured myself the day before my wedding, and when I got to thinking about that, I would start crying all over again!

But the tent frame was set up. The tables had arrived. The rehearsal was about to begin, and this thing was happening no matter what kind of mood I was in!

And meanwhile, my gorgeous girls were waiting happily inside the house for their cue.

So did Groomsmen C and J. They were oblivious to any stress that existed and were just genuinely excited to be there for us!

Mr. Turtle and I stressed out as all our beloved friends and family tried to understand where they were supposed to be and what they were supposed to be doing.

Can you tell I felt a little better as soon as our DOC, Danae, stepped in and started directing everyone?

Walking down “the aisle” with my dad…so surreal!

At this moment, Mr. Turtle and I began to realize that in just 24 hours this would all be happening for real!

As the rehearsal drew to a close, our pastor and DOC assured us that all rehearsals feel a little disorganized and that tomorrow, everything would be perfect! When everyone else headed off to the rehearsal dinner location, I hurried into the house, hoping to finish our slideshow and thank you cards! (You may judge me for this, but I am so not usually a procrastinator! No matter how hard you work, there are going to be a few things that you just run out of time for!)

Would I be able to finish the slideshow and thank you cards? Would I finally relax and enjoy the rehearsal dinner? Find out in the next post! ;)

So far, have all of your wedding-related events turned out how you’d hoped? Do you find yourself leaving things for the last minute?

Beautiful pictures! (and it makes me smile seeing my wedding date - I was a Friday night bride - getting married while you were rehearsing.)

You look pretty cool and collected in these shots…I’d have never guessed you were stressed out. Maybe it’s the Ray Bans that hide it? P.S. I think you and Mr. T win for most stylish WB couple. Love the Union Jack detail on his shirt!

I find I’m in the exact same place mentally now that you were then! I’m constantly saying “I can’t wait for this wedding to be over!” I’m so stressed out. I’d just like it to get here so we can get it over with…

I’m gonna be singing that song during every single one of your recaps! Love how bright and sunny it was in these pics, what perfect weather for a happy rehearsal!

Everyone looks so happy in your pictures!

PS. The girl in the yellow dress looks super familiar and I can’t figure out why!

@jordynrose: What a nice compliment! Thank you! :)
@mak418: How fun! Happy 2 month anniversary yesterday!
@Miss Sand Dollar: Oh man, I can so remember that feeling. I understand that where you’re at right now, it’s nearly impossible to look past your wedding date, but once it comes and goes, life goes back to normal! I promise! That whole period when I was stressed about the wedding feels a world away now. I just look back on it as a really fun day!
@Mrs. Bruschetta: Haha, seriously! I’m singing it right now!

@babyboo: Hmm… weird! Are you from California? Maybe you recognize her! She’s a waitress! If not, maybe it’s just from some of my other posts!

Back when I was planning my wedding, WB was all about the fruit generation (wow that makes me old lol) and I remember seeing all of Mrs. Blueberry’s posts about the things she had to do and the checklists. And her one piece of advice was to not wait until the last minute for anything! I took it to heart and there were times I was twiddling my thumbs for lack of anything to do. Made my last week of singledom almost stress free (and what little stress there was came from outside sources, not things I could have done/planned ahead.)

Glad to see that it all worked out and you made it work and had a beautiful wedding! But I do hope future brides out there take this as an example of the kind of stress that no one needs.

No judgment here, there was definitely some last-minute activity associated with our wedding prep. Your rehearsal actually looks like a lot of fun, I know ours was one of my most favorite moments of the wedding weekend - when it finally started to feel real, and I was completely surrounded by all our loved ones.

@kandaceandjason: It definitely wasn’t because I didn’t work hard on the wedding during our entire 2 year engagement. It’s just the art student in me I guess! I think that even if I’d finished everything on my to-do list weeks before the wedding, I still would have been adding projects and pushing myself right up into the last minute. Everyone works differently, and I certainly have no regrets! :)

After our rehearsal dinner, everyone went to our favorite bar downtown while we (my husband and I) had to go back to our apartment so I could finish packing up and organizing the decorations for the people setting up, go check into our hotel, and let myself totally flip out about having to do this instead of being AT THE BAR. It was horrible (especially when my own mother texted me to say “hey, come out”. WHAT?! Mom, knife to the heart!)

We got it all done and met up with everyone at the bar, but man do I wish I’d been finished earlier.

Ooo, I like this recap because you can really see the backyardness (hi, I make up words). Our wedding is in my parents backyard and a lot of times with other backyard pictures on wedding blogs you really can’t even tell that it is one. This behind the scenes look really helps me! Your rehearsal dress is really cute btw!
