Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).

E-Pics = A Reason to Shop: Part 2

September 10th, 2010 @ 12:57 pm by Mrs. Hippo

So the big question when it comes to our engagement pictures is…What the heck do we wear?!?

Our photographers recommended staying away from solid black and solid white and suggested that I wear a dress for at least one of the outfit changes. I’ve also read that solid colors work better than patterns, and materials with texture translate well into print. Other than that, the options are endless. I’m thinking that we will do two outfit changes—one that’s more casual (as in jeans and tops), and one that’s a little dressier. I’d be willing to bet King Hippo goes with jeans for both, which is fine, but I’ll make a dress one of my outfits.

I started my clothing search online and went to my go-to online retailer, Victoria’s Secret.

I’m kind of in love with the clothes from Victoria’s Secret. I have many work clothes (suits, skirts, blouses) from there and an assortment of more casual tops. I don’t know if it’s their disgustingly perfect models that get me or what, but every time I go to their website to look around, I see something I have to have. Since we’ve been saving for the wedding, I haven’t made a Victoria’s Secret purchase in quite some time, but I think the engagement session is a perfect excuse very valid reason for picking up a few new things.

I’ve been eyeing this sweaterdress for the shoot, and I figure I can dress it up with some sassy shoes and earrings. I like the v-neck and the sleeves that go past the wrists. My biggest concern with this one is the weather. October in Dallas is typically not hot, but it’s definitely not really cold. I definitely don’t want to be hot taking our engagement pics, so that’s my only concern.

Dress Option #1

I also like this dress a lot. The neckline is fabulous, and I think the ruching would be flattering. My only concern is if it’s more “night out on the town” as opposed to engagement-picture worthy.

Dress Option #2

I also really like this purple number. The good thing about this one is that King Hippo has a great selection of button-down shirts that have purple in them, so we could easily color-coordinate.

So, hive, what do you think? Which one is your favorite?

I love #1 and think it would look great on you. But I’m not sure your photos are uploading properly; I had to click on the links, just to let you know!

It definitely depends on your body shape, but Dress #2 is the hottest.

I vote dress #2! Dress 1 is great, but it looks like it may be too hot for you, and at least on my body type, I prefer a more structured dress.

In any case, you’ll look gorgeous!

I love #2 and #3. Where are you taking your e-pics? I found that really influenced my outfit selection. We did some of ours at a favorite wine bar so I wore a dress similar to #2. If I had done them outside, I had have gone for a dress like #3. If you do a second e-pic session in NY then maybe #1 would work, it just seems overly warm for TX weather in Oct.

I adore both 2 and 3, but I love the color in 3!
I’d think about where you are doing the photos, because the first might be too warm, and the second not warm enough :( No matter what I’m sure you’ll look great!

I would usually say number 2 because it is such a hot dress, but for e-pics i’m gonna have to say #3.

No.1-Very classic. Simple. Yet when you look back on it a few years from now I think dress No.1 will still be the perfect choice.

Number 1 is the best, but I feel you about being warm. If it’ll be too hot, then my vote is for #3.
