Mrs. Barrettes's Picture
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

Silly Bandz

September 12th, 2010 @ 4:20 pm by Mrs. Barrettes

You know the best thing about being the eldest of 20 grandchildren? My cousins keep me in the loop! The latest “must-have” is Silly Bandz.

They’re like rubber bands, but thicker, and they come in all shapes and colors. Personally the princess set and the sea creatures set are my favorites:

Because we will be having lots of little ones at our wedding, silly bandz will totally be in the house. I have yet to tackle my kiddie I-SPY, but add this to my ever-growing list. The silly bandz craze totally reminds me of the slap-bracelet craze of my childhood!

Are you including any kiddie trends at your wedding?

Yes, I’m putting them in my kid bags but they were more expensive then I thought they would be. A small package of them was $8!!!!! wish I got them before it became the hot item to have

I have a bunch of those in my kid baskets. My daughter cam ehome with one and I got really upset and confused it with those bracelets they wore a couplde years ago which mean different bases you went to with boys.

My 3 year old necie wears them all the way up her wrist, kind of like we did with the black rubber bracelets that Madonna made hip in the 80’s. Wow, I just totally dated myself. ;) Love the idea of having them at the wedding! We have another year so I’ll have to wait for the new trend, but we’re definitely giving kids a special bag full of things for them.

I saw little girls trading these bracelets the other day. I had no idea they were so popular. This is definitely like the slap bracelets of our day. Those suckers used to hurt though…then again, maybe it was because we used to try and slap each other as hard as we could with them. :)

Yes, my Pre-K class is obsessed with them. My sister and I were JUST saying they are just like slap bracelets!LOL They also remind me of the jelly braclets we used to wear too. I have those on in my Kindergarten school picture.LMAO

Oh, no kids will be at my wedding, but if there were, I’d get these. TOTALLY keeps them occupied!

Try Walmart to buy these. The store near me carries a packet of them for $1-$2. SCORE!!

Those slap bracelets were awesome! I think they got banned from every elementary school-but I’m not so sure why…..Were they cutting wrists or something? Or is that an Urban Legend??

Not to be a debbie downer or anything, but these were in the news lately with potential danger to kids.

My mom got me and my bridesmaids these for when we went bridesmaids dress shopping (it’s a weird tradition - one of our moms always gets us something silly when we gfet together). She found a “Rodeo Drive” set that had - yup - a gigantic diamond ring! I had several of those on that day!!

Right now I’m wearing a yellow elephant band that one of my first graders gave me.
On a side note, last year I took a GRENADE (hot pink) silly band away from my students and refused to return it. You are now allowed to wear weapon themed accessories in the South Bronx– at least not on my watch!

Silly bands remind me of jelly bracelets! Slap bracelets did cut some people, but I think that the main reason that they got banned was that kids spent hours slapping them on and off!

I work at a Toys R Us, so I’m usually in the loop about the “it” toy at the moment…these aren’t as popular as freakin Zuh Zuh pets were last year around Christmas! But they’re still big!

I’m not cool with the sea creatures set simply because there’s no OCTOPUS! ;)
