Mrs. Husky, Denver Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Administrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid off Engagement Date: August 14, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Rancho San Carlos About Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
About Mrs. Husky

I was recently given a wonderful bridal shower, co-hosted by my two lovely aunts:

It was such a fun mix of friends and family - even FMIL Husky was able to come! It was single-handedly the most enjoyable shower experience I’ve ever had. Of course, it’s the only shower experience I’ve ever had in my honor!

MOH Husky came to my place early in the day to help me get ready. We thought of this as a sort-of hair and makeup trial. Though my hair at the shower was nothing like it will be at the wedding, we wanted to have an idea of how well the curls stayed in place. Personally, I think she did a darn fine job:

Our original intent was to try out fake lashes. But MOH Husky’s hand was a little, um, shaky from the night before, and I didn’t trust her with a glue-tipped bobby pin anywhere near my eye! We ended up using Too Faced Lash Injection mascara, which looked phenomenal in person, but doesn’t look quite as dramatic in the photos.

When we arrived at the shower, we were greeted by this drool-inducing spread:

Salmon, vegetable trays, fruit salads, chicken salad, fresh baked muffins…yum! What is not included here, but was probably the biggest hit of all, is the delicious sangria! We had both red and white, and they were each delicious.

We played some Pictionary, which BM N and I *totally* rocked. Here we are celebrating our victory:

PSA to those who may soon be involved in wedding Pictionary: Simply drawing large circles on the chest of a female stick figure does not automatically indicate “Bachelor Party” - it was not until a pole was drawn that our guessers understood it to be a stripper.

After our Pictionary success, it was time for presents! I’ve read this in almost every other bees’ bridal shower post, but it is so true: Opening presents in front of people is incredibly awkward. While I loved every single thing I received, it was hard to know how to be appropriately excited and grateful for each gift. But I managed:

(For the record, there were plenty of photos of me awkwardly opening gifts that I could have chosen. But I love MOH Husky’s face in this one, and consider this payback for all of the unflattering photos of me she has posted on Facebook.)

While I was opening gifts, my cousin, also known as “Ribbon Bouquet Master,” was hard at work. Here is her masterpiece:

I had such a fantastic time at the shower. To be able to spend an afternoon with my closest girlfriends, and the wonderful women who make up my family was such a welcome treat. A huge thank you to both of my aunts who put this on, and to all of my family and friends who attended!

Have you had a bridal shower recently? What tips do you have for winning the shower games?

Bahaha, tha fact that you stuck your name tag directly to your skin made me giggle :) I had so many awkward present opening pics, too.

@emma5w: I actually found it on ebay! Sometimes you really can score some adorable pieces there. I’ll probably end up selling it with the rest of my wedding stuff - how often can you really wear a champagne/ivory dress, if not to your own shower? ;)
