Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

Butterfly Ribbons as Escort Cards

September 13th, 2010 @ 6:34 pm by Mrs. Brooch

I talked a little in my intro about my love for butterflies. Everyone knows me for loving butterflies and people always give me butterfly stuff: stationery, artwork, jewelry, and just about anything with butterflies on it.

At first, I didn’t want to submit to a butterfly theme for our wedding, because it was too themey, but it kept coming up000my love for butterflies, that is—and if you remember, Mr. B proposed at the butterfly cottage.

So finally one day my co-bride (a coworker who’s engaged), suggested I go ahead and submit to my original idea of having a butterfly theme. She said, “You’re getting married in a garden, so it can be garden-chic…with butterflies!”

I love it!

We could totally pull off garden chic and I would love to see hints of butterflies everywhere.

Of course, with any new wedding revelation comes with it a search through the blog and Google images; and I have to admit garden-chic with butterflies has faired well thus far because the inspiration is flowing abundantly.

Take this amazing escort card display:

Tell me you aren’t loving this idea! I am so, so, so excited about this! It could really work for us being that our guests will enter the reception from the patio area outside. Do you think we could pull this off? I can just see the pretty ribbons swinging in the wind!

Did you dismiss a theme for your wedding in the beginning of your planning process, only to revisit it as time went on?

I love them on the ribbon, what a unique idea and they will look so pretty in a garden. We kind of used two themes…a garden/beach wedding if you will with some butterflies, lemons, sand ceremony and sea shells on our wedding cake! It was fun and very beautiful to see them both come together as one. I think your garden wedding will little beautiful and chic with hints of butterflies. :)

Lovely! And it would be perfect with your garden theme! (Probably easy to incorporate into invitations as well… maybe even have two butterflies dancing around each other represented by a little dot trail forming a heart behind them?)
I saw another butterfly placecard option one time that I loved.. it was butterflies that were cut so that they could be perched on the rims of each person’s wineglass at the tables. Not sure if you’re doing assigned seating, but if you are that could be a cute option as well. I think I have the image saved on my computer at home… I’ll try to remember to look for it when I get home from work.

Those escort cards are cute :-)
You could also do the butterfly bouquets! I swoon over those (and brooch bouquets!) The hilarious thing is that I am not even carrying a bouquet at all, I’m carrying a parasol. :-P
I could also see butterflies tucked into the flowers in the centerpieces, and little places like that. Oh how I heart butterflies-I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Butterflies scare the bejeezus outta me but I can totally picture a butterfly-themed garden party. And if you love them, I’m sure it’ll come out beautifully!

I love butterflies! And I really want to get married in a botanical garden. I figure butterflies will probably enter the picture somewhere. :) (Heck, they may be there anyway… one of the potential ceremony spots is a butterfly/hummingbird garden, though I honestly don’t think it’ll beat out some of the other spots just because of layout.)

I should acknowledge I am very impressed with that. I’ve glanced at a ton about it already however your point of view very widened my eyes to another means of thinking. Cheers .
