Mrs. Glasses, Tokyo/Los Angeles, CA Age and Occupation: 24, English teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, English teacher Engagement Date: September 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Parents' backyard About Me: I’m an expat living in Tokyo. I’ve been in Japan for almost three years now, where I met my fantastic English fiance. It’s time to leave Japan, so we are planning a fun, intimate, backyard ceremony back home in the suburbs of L.A. in October. Our wedding will be a mix of my love for food, beer, my Japanese culture, and Mr. G’s Englishness. We are on a tiny budget and DIYing almost everything!
About Mrs. Glasses

Jack and Jill

September 13th, 2010 @ 2:39 pm by Mrs. Glasses

My super sweet besties are throwing us a Jack and Jill party when we get back to L.A. Unfortunately, we don’t know if any of Mr. G’s male friends from England will be able to make it to the wedding and they probably wouldn’t be in town when it all goes down anyway. But we are using this time for my besties and their boyfriends to get to know Mr. G for our Jack and Jill.

The location of the party is top secret. All I’ve been told is to clear two days for it. What could we POSSIBLY be doing? L.A. is a prime jumping off point for tons of stuff.

Vegas would be a bit of a stretch.

It’s definitely a bank-breaker and would be difficult to do in two days. But it is classic bachelor and bachelorette territory and we’d definitely have a great time drinking poolside, pre-gaming before the club, drinking and dancing at the club, and buffeting it. Basically, we’d be drinking and eating. Fab, fat, fun. Both the guys and girls would have fun doing this.

Ahhhh, Santa Barbara. My old stomping grounds. One of my besties is my former roommate and we are proud Gauchos. Santa Barbara is beautiful, way prettier than L.A. We could go to the beach, shop, and hit up the fun bars like Sharkeez and Velvet Jones on State Street at night. Then we could combat our hangovers the next day with ginormous Freebirds burritos! It would be so fun to go back and reminisce!

San Diego is only a 2 hour drive from L.A., just like Santa Barbara, but to be honest I’m not too familiar with it. Usually me and my crew bypass it on our way to Mexico. I know that in the Old Town you can get Mexican food, you can find night clubs in the Gaslamp district, and beach bars in Pacific Beach. There is definitely a wealth of options but nothing I know specifically.

Perhaps my girls will surprise me with a weekend camping trip. Maybe we will head down to Tijuana. One thing is for sure: we’ll have drunken fun times with lots of food with girls AND guys. Hmmm, I’m gonna need a cute dress…

What will be/was the setting for your bachelorette party? Will it be a wild and crazy night on the town or bonding over a campfire? Have you ever been to a Jack and Jill party?

Yum Freebirds!!!

I’ve never been to a Jack & Jill, actually I had never heard of one until I read the boards. Your’s sounds like a fun bachelor/bachelorette party!

Is there another version of a Jack and Jill in the east coast, or other countries, where it’s actually a fund raising party?

Oh I just saw on line it’s just a pre wedding shower for both the bride and groom. Fun. i like the name of “Jack and Jill” can’t believe I never heard that expression before.

My bridal shower was last Sunday the 5th. We opted out of a co-ed shower and we chose not to do a bachelor/bachelorette party. So the pre-partying is over for us! :)

That sounds like so much fun! Santa Barbara or San Diego would be amazing! You might wanna hold off on Tijuana though…it’s pretty darn dangerous now a days. The others would be awesome though. I can’t wait to hear how it turns out!

@crazybabyinlove: Jack and Jill is just like a combo bachelorette/bachelor party around where I’m from. Maybe you’ve heard of it as Stag and Doe?

@Miss Elephant: ohhh, I just lpoked it up and it does have that purpose as well in some parts of America! Interesting!

I’ve also never heard of a Jack and Jill party - how is it different from an engagement party? Sounds like you have an exciting time coming up!

SIIIIGHHH!!!! When the Mr. and I lived in Las Vegas, we hit up all of these places. I miss the West Coast and its amazing capacity for road trips terribly. Santa Barbara makes me swoon.
