Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

Oxon Hill in the Spring

September 13th, 2010 @ 11:29 am by Mrs. Brooch

I told you Mama Brooch and Mr. B visited our venue not long after we picked it, but I couldn’t be there because I had to work. Well, I finally had my chance to check it out and ironically, it was exactly one year and one day before our wedding! It was my first time being there since we had found it more than 6 months prior, and can I say it was sooooo much better than I imagined it? Yay!

It’s really hard to describe the feeling I had pulling up. I was really, really anxious all morning to get there and when we finally did, I just felt overwhelmingly proud and like I wanted to show off all the little details of it all! My two best friends (my FSIL and MOH) went with me. They were so sweet to take off work and show such enthusiasm about seeing it! We went out the night prior (it was a girls’ night out and one of my other bridesmaids was there), they slept over, and the next morning we headed to over into Oxon Hill. Just like I was, they were pretty impressed pulling up. I’ll never forget my FSIL saying, “Oh wow!” I can hear her saying it now!

I had this whole debate about whether we’d walk in the front door or walk around the house to the garden (which is how our guests will do it the day of our wedding). They said they wanted to do it the they everyone would and so we decided to walk through the garden. I’m so glad that we did! I was speechless when we turned the corner! I was beside myself looking at all the flowers, lush green trees, and the Potomac River in the distance! And of course, the look on their faces was priceless. That’s when my MOH said, “Oh wow!”

I made a total fool of myself too, because I yelled out, “Look at all the eff-ing [yes, I cursed] flowers!!” Just when I did, an older lady walked around from behind the house! I smacked my mouth with my hands and gasped! I was so embarrassed, but hey, I was excited! See, there were no flowers in November when we found this place. Everything had literally come to life and it was beautiful!

The visit far exceeded my expectations. It was really, really cool to be at the venue exactly one year and one day before our actual wedding, and the place looked better than ever! I’m sorry to gush with even more pictures of our venue. I know you’ll get tired of them soon, but hopefully there is an Oxon Hill bride loving me for it!

when we first looked at the venue i didnt pay attention to the tiny details. but when we went back to put the deposit we had to wait for the owner so we ran around the building to play with all the old farm equipment lol we though it was all just decoration but it still moved and worked!

I have visited my wedding site almost every other month since I got engaged last November. Every time I go, I fall in love with it all over again. It feels wonderful to be so happy and confident with such a big decision. Congrats on your location - it is stunning!

I had the exact same relationship with our venue. I was giddy every time we visited, nervous for everyone else to love it as much as I did, and every time I visited I discovered some other little beautiful charming detail I hadn’t noticed (or remembered) from the previous time. It really made our wedding day how happy it made me to just *be* there - I kept tiptoeing down barefoot during our hours getting ready in the bridal suite to look around and check on the vendors as they set up, and I just wanted to live there forever. Yours looks every bit as beautiful and I can see why you love it so much!

Beautiful! We had booked our venue in February, and everything was covered in snow. We visited this past summer and like you, were beside ourselves at how beautiful and lush it was. It’s going to make our day even better! :)

Very lovely venue! So pretty. I love my venue more and more as I do more DIY planning. It’s a farm and the reception will be in the barn. :)
