Aside from choosing each other (duh), the best decision we made was hiring a live band to play our reception.

Literally every single guest was cutting a rug at some point in the evening. Seeing my grandfather busting a move pleased me to no end.

Oh! I do have one other little story to tell (and brag on our totally awesome and VERY professional band). About half-way into the first set, the band launched into what is probably one of the all time greatest reception songs EVAR: Livin’ on a Prayer. The full band was rockin’, the event lighting was beaming and pulsing and shining bright, the AC was pumping and the photo booth (more on this later!) was in full swing. That’s a lot of juice for our meager country club ballroom (perhaps you can see where this is going…).

About 5 seconds before the lead singer belts out the chorus there was a barely audible “POP”! Without skipping a beat, the drummer kicked it into high gear and the lead singer lead a ROUSING a capella sing-a-long of Jon Bon’s famous chorus. Every.Single.Guest (my grandparents included) was belting out the lyrics with such intensity and emotion, no one ever noticed the minor technical glitch. GMSeth pulled a few cords, we had a few less can/event lights setting the mood and we were back in business. It was magical and one of my favorite memories of the night.

Can I just say how much I love how big the finger-pointing move is for your guests? Amazing!

As someone who danced.her.ass.off at this wedding, I have to say the finger pointing is totally patent pending for our crowd! Props, lady!

Also - the picture of M jumping is EPIC.

I agree 100% — a live band makes all the difference! It’s a must for a good party! We loved our band, too, and they are also one of our favorite splurges from our wedding. Go live, or go home!!!!!

That is freaking awesome! Sounds like the most fun unplanned moment possible, since an a capella break works perfectly in that song.

We had a moment late in our reception when the DJ played “Don’t Stop Believin’” and literally every guest got into a circle with their arms around each other, belting along with the music, with me and my husband dancing in the middle. You just can’t plan stuff like that, and it was one of my top memories of the evening too! And, I loved getting back from the honeymoon and having friends ask me “Was the ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ dance circle as epically awesome for you as it was for the rest of us?”
