Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

What Wedding Stress?

September 13th, 2010 @ 3:00 pm by Mrs. Barrettes

Feeling stressed? Grab your honey and head to the nearest amusement park! It’s definitely a good way to scream at the top of your lungs without turning any heads!

What Wedding Stress? : wedding emotional napa Hp1 hp1

We are less than one month out and seriously, I’m not stressing. Is it normal to feel so *meh* about everything?

This is not to say that everything is complete.

I have the wine charms to finish, escort cards to begin, favors to fill, wine to taste, a dress to find…

Yet, I’m so blase about it all. Is it called ’living in the moment’ or being dispassionate?

I feel like I should be wound up about getting married in 4 weeks. But I feel as cool as a cucumber. I’m excited about seeing friends I haven’t seen in years, but that’s about it. It sort of feels like everything will come together in the end, so what’s the use about worrying? Even if all my projects fall to doggie doo, we still have the winery and the food and all the love, so everything else is just an added bonus, right?

Am I missing the “Bride” gene? I’m not even caring about the Facebook thing. You know what I did after my brother’s wedding—posted all my pics to Facebook! As did all my cousins. So there goes that—I ate my own words.

Maybe I’ll get more bride-y when we head to California. A visit to V. Sattui for our wine tasting might just do the trick!

Anyone else suffer with the case of the ’meh-whatevers’? Did you feel weird for not being ’bride-y’?

Storm Runner. Great ride. Yeah, um, I have not felt stress or anxiety at all about the wedding-planning process, and have often wondered if there’s something wrong with me. I chalk it up to my fantastic organization skills (aka, being completely anal retentive) and thank God that I won’t be doing last-minute projects the night before the wedding like my sister was!

I feel the exact same way you do. I started to get stressed, but I thought, “Why?? Everything will either come together or it won’t.” We started planning so far ahead that we now get to sit back, relax & be nothing but excited for our wedding :)

I think you just said it perfectly, that the stuff left to do is all in the details. It might make the event, but it certainly won’t break it to go without.

Just make sure you think it, say it and mean it a hundred times more - otherwise you’ll be the sleep-deprived bride who made her girls stay up until 4 in the morning the night of the wedding…

I feel the exact same way. I freaked out in February-ish and haven’t freaked out since. I think I’m going to give my mom a panic attack because I’m all, “Eh, I’ll get it done,” and she’s convinced I won’t. Oh well, at the end of the day I’ll be married and surrounded by all the people I love and that’s what matters.

I’m with ya barrettes! I get married on Saturday and I’m excited of course, but not overtly. A bit meh I guess you could say. Don’t get me wrong, I’m uber stoked to marry my man. Maybe it’s because I’m such a neurotic planner that most things are done and I literally don’t have much stress. Meh, I get married Saturday :) I wouldn’t stress about the no stress. Not everyone needs to stress out, enjoy it!

I definitely have my days of “screw it, it’ll happen and be awesome no matter what” and then days of “omg how will all of this get done??” I love your idea to head to the nearest amusement park! That pic is too cute!

I felt the same way! When your day comes along, it’s ultimately about you and him and your love for each other! No reason to stress!

I was also wondering if some gene was switched off in me the month before the wedding. I kept totally cool and calm the whole way up to the wedding. Maybe too much so, because I ended up putting off some to-do items until the days before the wedding, and it would have been great to have gotten those done a few weeks earlier. I kept wondering, When do I start freaking out?

Thanks ladies for making me feel not crazy! And also thank you for your friendly reminders not to wait til the last minute to do projects. No, they still won’t do themselves, no matter how relaxed I am! :)

Thanks for the post, I was starting to feel like a bit of a freak because of my “meh” attitude. With three weeks to the wedding, everyone has been asking me if I’m excited and/or stressed. No and no. I have stuff to do sure, but I feel no stress about getting it done. I know when it gets closer, I’ll get more excited, I guess right now I’m just focused.

That was me too! I wasn’t panicked about anything (and I never panicked later either!)
Just cruise on into your wedding and enjoy it - as long as the people who need to be there are there that’s all that matters - the rest is just gravy!
