About Mrs. Socks

Bridal Party Gear

September 13th, 2010 @ 9:10 am by Mrs. Socks

Right after I wrote the post about Mr. Socks’ and his groomsmen’s ties, I realized I’ve never written about what my bridal party is going to wear!!

I have three bridesmaids and Mr. Socks has three groomsmen. I was pretty laid back about what everyone would wear—at first, I had told my bridesmaids to find any dress they liked in a fall color and wear it, but that seemed to overwhelm my ladies, so I narrowed the choices down to a cotton sateen dress at David’s. They could wear any style they liked, and I wanted them to have different colors—truffle, apple, and persimmon.

Like so:

(Please excuse the hasty yellow shoes I slapped on them)

The red (apple) dress is not the real dress BM Lea is wearing, but I couldn’t find it on David’s website anymore, so this is close enough.

Anyway, so that covered my bridesmaids! I really like the combo, but I think if I could do it again, I might have gone with everyone in the persimmon color since our colors have really transitioned from general “fall colors” to “orange and yellow.” Oh well, I still love the dresses and I think they’re comfy and cute!

For our guys, Mr. Socks is too trim for the tuxes at Men’s Warehouse (none are very slim-cut), so we decided a nice-fitting suit would be fine. Since we went this route for Mr. Socks, I thought it’d be silly to have the groomsmen in tuxes while Mr. Socks was in a suit, so our requirements for the groomsmen were: ”Medium to light-ish grey suits. But if you like a darker grey and think you’ll wear it more after the wedding, I don’t really care, so…just grey.”

It’s a little scary to not know what everyone will look like together since our entire bridal party is mis-matched, but to the internets I searched!

Here’s what I found that appeased my fears:

Bridal Party Gear : wedding bridesmaid dress menswear philadelphia Grey Su Source

Bridal Party Gear : wedding bridesmaid dress menswear philadelphia Groomsm Source

They look fiiiiine! Different suits in the same color palette? It seems to have worked for these guys!!

So we’ll be a bunch of mismatched misfits, I suppose, but I think the ties and bouts for the guys will bring it all together and the yellow shoes and bouquets will bring it together for the girls. I’m just happy that we’ll have great people standing up with us at our wedding, so I’m not going to get hung up about what they wear!

Is your bridal party mismatched? Were you afraid of how it might turn out?

Thank you so much for posting those pictures! We’re also doing “just gray suits” and I was also worried that the guys would look like a bad yard sale. I feel better now :)

I think the collection of gray suits looks great! I agree that the ties bring it together.

My bridesmaids are wearing black dresses–I said anything black, knee-length or below. And I think one of the ladies is wearing a suit. The wedding is a month away and I’m still not sure what all the girls are wearing… I just have to have faith it will all work out!

Pretty! I love your bm colors together!

Our guys are doing grey too. Some of them are sorta big and I’m hoping they don’t look like giant elephants…

I love the look of the different shades of gray suits.

@Miss Barrettes: What’s wrong with elephants? hehe ;)

Both our bridal parties are mismatched. I’m more worried about how the guys’ choices will go together than the ladies.

Socks, if I had it to do all over again I would have just told the guys to wear any black suit and I would have picked diff. styles in 1 color for my girls instead of having them all in the same dress. Hindsight :o / Oh well. Your crew is gonna look fab!!

@Delovely: Miss Socks let us pick our own yellow shoes too. I found my yellow heals (and flats-for-later) at DSW.com. Miss Socks got her fancy heals at Kate Spade. BM Lea found hers on amazon.com, and Sister Socks is dying her wedding shoes yellow. All great options. I was the last to get mine (in fact, they just arrived in the mail today) because it took me FOREVER to find a less expensive yellow shoe that I liked. I think the issue is that most yellow shoes are open toe since yellow’s usually a summer color, and I wanted a closed toe shoe. I even went to David’s at one point to see if I could just get a pair of white shoes and have them dyed. It was a nice option, but dyable shoes can be so blah (for me anyway), so I turned to DSW.com and got the Madden Girl Sursey Patent Pump in yellow. Hope that helps!

What color is the one on the left? I can’t tell if its my older monitor at work – but that looks like the perfect burnt orange color I’m looking for, but can’t seem to find. Even checking out the DB’s website – I didn’t seem to find anything similar to that.

I love the mismatched look – it really looks great! The suits will definitely be great, even if not matched perfectly :)

We are doing the grey suits too and it was actually the first of your inspiration pictures that convinced me it will look fine. I want the groomsmen to be able to wear their suits again and find a style/shade that they like.

My guys will also be wearing their own grey suits. The fh thought it would look horrible, I didn’t but those pictures just proved my point!

We just went suit/tux shopping yesterday! I love the look of mis-matched bridesmaid dresses but was unsure about mixed suits. Especially if we have my FI in a tan suit and the rest of the guys in gray. The jury’s still out… though I love the inspiration pictures you posted…
