To Top or Not to Top?

September 13th, 2010 @ 10:55 am by Mrs. Starfish

I’ve been going back and forth for months now on whether we should go with our original topper, Lladro’s The Happiest Day, or purchase the one I found online, below.

The True Romance People Topper reminds me of our engagement, but I’m just so in love with the Lladro piece Starfish Mom gave us for our engagement gift.

Mr. Starfish has been dead set on having people on top of the cake, but after seeing this setup below, I’m warming up to the idea of putting the topper to the side. (If you’ll remember, the Lladro piece is too large to be placed on top of our cake, hence the dilemma.) Mr. Starfish will still get his people-topper (albeit, not on top of the cake) and I’ll still be able to use the Lladro piece from Starfish Mom. It’s not exactly what we want, but it could work.

What do you think? Should we get the True Romance Topper, so we can actually have a “people topper” on our cake, or stick with the Lladro and place it to the side?

Well person I love the happiest day Lladro piece because it was my husbands gift to me on our wedding day :) and also I am a huge fan of putting a topper next to the cake instead of on top, its a cool modern twist on a very traditional thing. So my vote is for happiest day next to the cake!

our cake topper makes the people look soooo tall so we are putting it on top and surrounding it with flowers. i cant look tall on my wedding day when im only 5′1 :-P

I vote for the Lladro to the side! It is SUCH a beautiful piece, and I think you’ll get the same effect even if it isn’t sitting directly on top of the cake!

Are you having a sweetheart table? If so, have the Lladro figure as the centerpiece of the sweetheart table, and the the other as the cake topper.

I think you should use the happiest day on the side. It is so special that it was a gift from your mother!

I love the photo with the topper on the side. Plus its a great compromise so you both get what you want. =)

I like the idea of using the topper from your mom and placing it to the side.

I like the topper on the side: the main reason is that it is a great compromise between the two of you.

I’m also a big fan of the side-topper. I think it will look perfect

I am a fan of the people to the side. I think that is a modern take on cake toppers.

I like the idea of putting it to the side … or could you put it by your guest book?

I love the idea of putting it to the side. In that photo, it looks more like a pretty statuette than a cake topper, and I could easily imagine you displaying that on your hearth or china cabinet after the wedding.

I LOVE Lladro’s Happiest Day BUT it may be better suited next to the cake or on your table. I don’t know if you have seen it in person but it’s rather large and heavy.

I considered it as well, until I saw it and saw how big it was- no way our cake would support that!
