About Mrs. Socks

I Hope Our Guests Are Hungry!

September 13th, 2010 @ 5:49 pm by Mrs. Socks

This past weekend, Mr. Socks and I, along with my parents, went to Ladder 15 for our official tasting! Seriously, the four of us could barely move afterward, we were so full of deliciousness.

And before I launch into our pictures, let me just say how incredibly happy I am with our choice to go with Ladder 15. Even though they had a party of 130 past and present Eagles cheerleaders in the night before and didn’t get home ’til an insane hour in the morning, the staff was so incredibly nice and accommodating, and went out of their way to make our tasting an amazing experience.

Anyway, let’s get on to the food!

We started out tasting the hors d’oeuvres for the cocktail hour. First up was a trio of bruschettas!

I must admit…I was too excited and forgot to take a picture of this first dish, so I apologize for being a bad blogger!

The bruschettas were: oven dried tomato and pesto, goat cheese with an olive tapenade, and a butternut squash with parmesan cheese. The toasts they were on were delicious and crisp, and the four of us loooved each one!

Next up:

Battered shrimp with an aioli dipping sauce! This is Mr. Socks’ favorite out of everything—the shrimp were fresh and so tasty!

We will also have one of Ladder 15′s signature dishes for our cocktail hour: their Korean tacos! Ohhh yum…these were so good. These were Momma Socks’ faves!

Then we had our cheese plate with baguette—I wish I had written down all of the cheeses, but alas, I forgot to. They were super yummy, though!

And that ends the cocktail hour!

On to dinner!

I apologize for the shadow! We started out with a small spring salad tossed in a light vinaigrette—it was the perfect sized salad for the rest of the ginormous meal that was coming!

We then had a wild mushroom risotto, and it was to die for! I’m always afraid of risotto in restaurants…you never know when you’ll get perfectly cooked, delicious risotto and when you’ll get flavorless glop. This was definitely the perfectly cooked, delicious kind! We don’t have any vegetarians that we know of coming to the wedding, but this is an approachable enough veggie dish that I think anyone would love!

Then we moved on to these big, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth scallops on a little pile of celery root puree. Celery root puree, you ask? It was like mashed potatoes only lighter and creamier! I also think that there was some truffle oil surrounding the scallops-oooh yum. This was my fave of the evening.

To round out our entrees, we had a slow roasted leg of lamb with jus and lentils! I forgot to take a picture of it before we dug in, but it still looks delicious after carving it up, right??

And finally, we had our seasonal vegetables:

Again…I got excited and dug in before snapping the photo, but we have lightly fried cauliflower (sooo good and I’m not a big cauliflower fan!), beets, broccoli rabe, and roasted potatoes!

And if you aren’t full yet…OMG, then we had dessert.

Ladder 15 went wayyyy overboard here and ordered a TON of stuff! Unfortunately the bakery forgot to deliver the ice cream we ordered, but we’ll have to go back for that!

Yeah, I wasn’t kidding when I said they went overboard! There was no way the four of us could eat all of these! Plus, there were two more trays this big of other desserts! Above is the Poached Apple and Spice Mascarpone Mousse dessert, which Dad Socks and Mr. Socks favored.

To the left was the Blackberry Blackbird…a lemon and almond mousse with blackberry jam and a blackberry glaze on top, which Momma Socks and I adored. To the right was the Caramelized Banana Torte, which was good, but we decided not to go with it.

So, we got the Poached Apple dessert and the Blackberry Blackbird to go alongside our DIY ice cream bar!

I’m just full still thinking about it.

All in all, doing this tasting has made me a billion percent more excited for the wedding. Now that I know how everything looks and tastes and how it’ll be served (family style, with plates of everything on each table), I feel so confident that our dinner will be amazing.

Mr. Socks and I are so happy with all of our choices—we can’t believe how lucky we were to find a place like Ladder 15—they have such open minds to everything we wanted and truly are making our dreams a reality! (Wow, that was cheesy, but I’m on cloud 9, so I don’t really care!)

Did your tasting make you as excited as it made me?

In case you DO have vegetarians coming make sure the risotto isn’t made with chicken stock, as it often is. :)
