Keeping Our Upper Lips Warm

September 13th, 2010 @ 4:38 pm by Ms. Sloth

There is one detail that I’ve seen countless times in my brief time as part of the indie wedding blogosphere:

Mustaches.

I don’t get it—it’s such a strange, random trend—but I love it, and we’re going to incorporate them into our wedding. I know that it’s not unique at all, but I’m okay with that because it feels true to us.

See, Mr. S loves mustaches. Whenever we see someone with a particularly great mustache, he’ll nudge me, point the dude out and whisper, “That’s awesome.” He usually has a big scruffy beard, but every time he decides to shave it off, he’ll leave his mustache for a few minutes, long enough to try convince me that he’s not only going to leave it, but is going to wear it to my cousin’s bar mitzvah or some such nonsense. And, this year, for my office’s White Elephant gift exchange, I bought a bunch of mustache-related gifts (a mustache pint glass, mustache bandages and stickers, and fuzzy stick-on fake ’staches) and when I showed Mr. S, he was really upset that I didn’t buy that stuff for him!

So yeah. He likes mustaches. I do, too. And a smilebooth was always part of our plan, so we’re going to have mustaches on a stick. It’s not original, but it’ll be fun.

Did you have mustaches or other silly props at your wedding?

I love it, too - even though I know it’s not too original or logical. Good for you for going with it!

original or not, mustaches are awesome! we had a mustache-themed housewarming party and though it probably wasn’t anyone’s first mustache-themed event, it was still so much fun (and made for some amazing pictures)! and you know what? not one person complained that they had to sport a ’stache. why the mustache is awesome/hysterical is a mystery, but invite me mustache-themed bash and i’ll whip out my tom selleck faster than you can say “lip tickler”! (yes, that’s an actual nickname for a mustache- i googled it!)

Only mustaches at the weddings were real ones - my husband has one (I was never a facial hair-liking person, but I can’t imagine him without one) and his friend Joe has the greatest 70’s era looking mustache ever.

Ha–they’re fun, no idea why I like them, or how they even became a trend. But it doesn’t matter, I think we’re making some for our photobooth too!

Agreed - it’s a weird phenomenon but I’m hooked as well. We’re planning a smile booth and might just have to include some ’stashes!

Our wedding was pre-’stache trend and I’m doubtful we would have incorporated them as I’m probably no where near cool enough. That’s not to say I didn’t latch onto pretty much every.single.other wedding trend (photobooth! cake flags! Oh my!) Can’t wait to see your ’stache pics!

We’re having mustache-on-a-sticks at our wedding (in 12 days!) in two forms: cardstock for pictures and fun and chocolate as our favor! I can’t WAIT! We had even planned to use our ’stache Labbit plushes as a cake topper, but then we went with cupcakes, so… We don’t care that it has become a trend, we’ve always loved them and our wedding has a young at heart them, so it’s perfect!

Eh- as much as we notice trends in the blogasphere- your guests won’t- or at the least the chances are they haven’t experienced them. I’m gonna rock it like it’s an original.

Such a random trend, but I like it.

My husband also nudges me every time he sees a particularly badass mustache. We didn’t have them on sticks at the wedding, though; your guests will have fun with those.
