After our bridal party portraits, Mr. FF helped me (and all of my dress, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”-style) into the car. The dark, ominous clouds covering the sky during our bridal party pictures suddenly opened and it began to pour. Sheets of rain were falling fast and furious, and I didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry. This was the only time we had slotted for our pictures, and had a little more than an hour to get them done. I began to laugh at this point, because what good would crying do? It wasn’t going to stop the rain, and we just had to make the best of the situation.
I really wanted to get some shots in historic downtown area of our city, so we started in that direction with the intention of waiting out the worst of the storm. The drive there was somewhat tricky, since the rain was falling so fast that the storm sewers couldn’t keep up and the roads were flooded in places. I thought it would be a good opportunity to capture the moment for posterity (or for blogging):

Let’s play “I spy” with this picture shall we? 1. It may look like our windshield wipers weren’t moving, but they were going so fast that they ended up being that black blur just above the dashboard. 2. See that flashing red light in the middle of the picture? Yep, we got stuck at a railroad crossing. Eventually we realized that it was malfunctioning because of the storm and drove around the guard rails…but we waited for a good long time. 3. Oh, and see the clock in the dashboard? It reads 4:35, which meant that we officially had less than an hour before we had to be back at the hotel for family pictures before our reception.
We finally made our way downtown, but the rain was relentless and we couldn’t afford to wait it out any longer. Our photographer made the decision to move our portraits to an old college in the area that had some covered areas as well as outdoor areas (and really pretty cream city brick), and we would take our pictures with umbrellas in the rain. Once we had arrived, we jumped out, grabbed umbrellas (and Mr. FF grabbed my train), and we got down to business!

The rain started to pick up again, so we took shelter in one of the campus hallways. We took some more pictures of us as a couple, and then some individual shots of each of us.

Want to see where Mr. FF had to stand while Molly was shooting pictures of me?

Yup, out in the rain. But it made for a really neat picture! When Mr. FF was having his glamour shots taken, I simply stood at the other end of the hallway, trying to be inconspicuous (no idea what I’m laughing at here - probably a joke that Mr. FF made. ![]()

The rain started to ease up a bit, so we went back onto the campus grounds to get some more outdoor pictures.

Mr. FF carried my train a lot that day. ![]()
Walking around the grounds, we saw many downed trees. The storm had hit the area very hard, and its effects were everywhere.

Isn’t this old gate covered in climbing roses just gorgeous? Love it.
The rain seemed to be passing in waves, and soon it had picked up again. Molly directed us to go back into one of the campus hallways to get a “shoe shot” with us. I had to send Mr. FF back to the car for my “back up” shoes, which were my silver rosette sandals from J.Crew. I was still wearing the ivory “grandma” slippers that I was wearing for the ceremony, and they were absolutely soaked with rain water and trashed with mud. Not cute. Mr. FF dutifully went back to our car and grabbed a pair of flip-flops from my bag. Buuuut, when he returned with them, I realized that they were my cheapy old navy $2 flip-flops, not my pretty J.Crew pair. So, back to the car he went again, and this time he came back with the correct pair. What an awesome husband. ![]()

Shaking off the rainwater from his *two* trips to the car.

I love how Mr. FF is holding my bouquet in this one!
We rounded out our portraits by trying a more dramatic pose…which, if you know Mr. FF and me, we’re not exactly “dramatic.” But, it turned out great!

Mr. FF looked at his watch and realized that we had less than 15 minutes to get back to our hotel for our family pictures, so we had to skedaddle. It was almost time for our reception! But not before one final picture in the rain:

Miss a chapter?
First, we drove all of our stuff to our venue.
Then, I freaked about the weather forecast.
Next,we rehearsed.
We had a yummy rehearsal dinner!
The girls got glam.
We both got dressed and ready to rock and roll.

Mr. FF watched me walk down the aisle.
We got married!!!
We beat the storm for our bridal party pictures.
