Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

DIY Personalized Wine Charms? Check! : wedding diy favors napa placecards Dsc0345 DSC0345

We finally finished our wine charm project! In part, thanks to the postponement of the Men’s Tennis Final. I can’t craft and pay attention to tennis at the same time. Also in part to Baby Barrettes—look how helpful he tried to be!

Thank you to those of you who gave me suggestions for writing on the ribbon.

In the end, the tag ended up being the best solution for us. Amanda shared this link with me and I thought, “Huh, why didn’t I think of that in the first place?” I had already tied the bows so I didn’t want to start from scratch, but it was an idea worth sharing!

So, I did a wine charm for the ladies:

and a charm for the men:

I ended up printing the name of the guest on thick textured cardstock from Michaels, punching a 1/8″ hole in the corner and hanging it from a 5mm jump ring. I found the heart charms at Michaels also and thought they added that finishing touch.

I also enlisted Mr. Barrettes in singeing the ends of the bows so the satin didn’t fray.

We love crafts!

As for bending the wire, I found this link quite helpful : DIY wine charms

Cute, right?! We will be presenting these charms on the wedding favor (more about that soon), since I’ve heard that if you place it on the glass, the guests will likely think they can take the glass home.

My first DIY project? Success!

What metal did you use for the wire? The tutorial goes through using copper but yours are more of a silver tone and would be much more fitting for our scheme. Love them! They’re adorable!

omg…i’ve been tossing this idea about doing wine charms as seating/table assignments for the past few weeks. This is definitely making me want to start this project.

Really great idea there - I love the finished charms.
@miss macbook - I’d hazard a guess at either silver or silver plated wire. The latter is inexpensive and relatively easy to get hold of - just great for doing this sort of thing with!

I seriously heart this idea. I think I need to throw a dinner party just so I have an excuse to make some. Or maybe this will be my holiday gift to friends this year. LOVE how they turned out. Great job.

@Miss MacBook: Just found the wire at Michael’s near the beads. It is 18 gauge. I found the smaller wire too flimsy. I recommend using 18 or thicker.
