About Mrs. Socks

Picture Perfect

September 14th, 2010 @ 12:45 pm by Mrs. Socks

Since our civil ceremony is this weekend and I’m campaigning hard to get Wrigley and Zoe involved in the ceremony, we decided that they needed to be spiffed up and groomed for the big day! Plus, with FMIL and FFIL coming into town for the ceremony, we wanted the pups to make a good impression.

Looking good, eh?

Since they’re Wire Fox Terriers and require special grooming (hand-stripping the coat out), we took them to Bow Wow and Meows in Philly and they made them all shiny and sparkly for the civil ceremony! I really really really hope that we can find a way to involve the dogs—especially now that they look like little show dogs!

While we were waiting for the pups to be groomed, Mr. Socks and I decided to find a location for our wedding pictures since we hadn’t decided on it yet. First, we went to UPenn’s Biopond. When I was a student at Drexel (UPenn’s neighbor), I would always come to this pond to get a bit away from the city, and it is gorgeous!

The pond is brimming with koi fish and turtles, and it’s a very peaceful getaway right in the middle of the city!

There are paths that wind their way all around the pond.

Who knew this was in the city, right??

After we left the Biopond, we headed all the way to the other end of the city, towards 2nd and South, where I thought we could get photos that would be more representative of Philly.

This would be a great structure to take photos in if it’s raining!

Sigh…it’s a tough decision.

Here’s my list of pros and cons:

If we could get to both locations, it’d be the best of both worlds, but since they’re on opposite sides of the city, it might be a challenge to get everyone to and from both locations. I love the thought of having pictures that are very “Philly” but at the same time, I worry that we might do too much walking around in old city to find places to take photos, dodging people and cars and kids.

What do you think, hive? Nature or city?

OMG. Every time you post pictures of your terriers, I die of cuteness. They are both so adorable, and they certainly look spiffy all groomed!!! :)

Personally, I would go with the city pics. I just think they’ll look so awesome, and I love the structure you can use if it rains!

I would go with city pics - but I’m biased because that’s what we’re doing! ha ha

I’m highly biased towards quiet, secluded stuff, and I still say City. The pond location is prettier, but the other way is less expensive and has rain-out options. Also, it’s possible to bring some flats with you for walking.

I spy the Headhouse, and I’m biased, so I vote City!

Although if it’s possible, maybe you could do your pond shots and then go back to the venue early and get city shots (although not of the S.Street area) since you’ll be in Center City. You can do the tried and true City Hall shots and then make your way over to the venue since if I’m remembering correctly you’re only a few blocks away. And pack flats for the walking/head shots :)

My friend had her ceremony in the Shambles at Headhouse Square (which is the official name of the city location above). It was adorable.

The only thing I’d worry about is that they have big farmers markets and craft fairs down there all the time. You want to make sure that nothing is going on if you’re getting your photos taken there.

And yeah, those cobblestones are HARD to maneuver in heels. I almost did a face plant there.

City! A good photographer will know to move you to the side of the street where parking isn’t allowed, and use a shallower depth of field to blur any cars that may be in the picture. Overall, the city is just more interesting!

I’m from Philly, and I vote Old City! Especially since you already had your nature-y photo shoot for your e-pics…plus I just love a good city shoot!

Yup, I have to agree with everyone and say Old City. I love that part of the city and think it could make for some really interesting photos!

Oh I love both, but I love the pond a little more. Although yes, it’s not very representitive of Philly. AND I love the pups!!!

I love the dogs. Can they be in the shoot with you (wherever you decide to do it?)

I <3 Wrigley and Zoe! So cute! I think I kind of lean towards city photos, but that’s really only because I’m a huge sucker for photos taken in more urban settings. I think the pond is incredible too, though!

Your pups are sooooo cute! Our e-pics/post courthouse were shot in the city, I think it’s something that’s not done enough!
