Buttercream Frosting - Yes Please!

September 15th, 2010 @ 5:14 pm by Mrs. Hippo

On my long list of things to do for the big Dallas wedding planning extravaganza next month is tasting cakes and selecting a baker. I can’t wait for this! I love cake. Love. Cake. It’s glorious. And to be honest, if our wedding cake tastes amazing and looks decent, I’ll be happy. Honestly, I don’t need anything over-the-top.

Even though the cake design isn’t a huge priority for me, I did find these lovelies in my online search for ideas:

I think those cakes are stunning, but I’m going to have a blingy cake topper, so a simple cake design like this one is more along the lines of what I’m looking for:

Clean lines, classy, yet still stylish. I think it works for ud…so long as it tastes amazing. No crusty fondant icing for this Hippo. I need buttercream!

Did taste or design rule your cake selection?

Your last cake is similar to what we had - we had the swiss dot pattern, though we skipped the ribbon. Here’s a pic I just uploaded to the gallery; http://gallery.weddingbee.com/photo/our-cake-12. The fresh raspberries were my favorite part. :P

I LOVE cake. I think the cake pictures you chose are beautiful. I have the same priority. The design I want for my cake is extremely simple…I just want it to be pretty but taste YUMMY! Can’t wait to hear your experience.
P.S. I’m drooling thinking about buttercream.

Definitely TASTE! It’s been said time and again that people might forgive a less than breathtaking cake, but they’ll NEVER forget if it tasted terrible! Buttercream all the way! :)

Your first cake option is one of my favorites. I’ve seen it done in yellow with white piping which gives it a completely different feel.

We stressed flavor over appearance much to the confusion of a few bakers (who will not get our business).

I’m with you. Taste is most important because long after people forget what your cake looked like they will remember the loved the taste.

I mean, I love me a beautiful cake but I’d rather have an okay looking cake that was absolutely scrumptious!!!

My husband pointed out before the wedding that whenever anyone asked what kind of cake we were having, my answer was “buttercream frosting”. Which is a funny answer, but shows how much I really wanted a tasty cake!! We found that our town’s health food store owner bakes wedding cakes, and she made ours (5!!) for our cake buffet, so we had something delicious for everyone!

I love the first 2 cakes! SOOO elegant, but not over the top or gaudy.

I want a simply elegant cake that tastes great. I am definitely with you on the taste. I love sweets way too much to have a nasty tasting cake!

We opted for buttercream because no one ever likes to eat fondant, and if they say they do they are lying. We decided to go with a simpler cake design and just get a dramatic cake topper (actually it sticks out of the side of the cake) to make up for it. P.S. I really love the look of that black and white cake!

Taste- though we believe we found a baker in Fort Worth who can make very pretty cakes without using fondant. They also taste AMAZING!

Now that is one impressive cake! How in the world did they stack it? And I still love the black lace one, it’s so utterly gorgeous
