About Ms. Sloth

Our engagement will be, altogether, about eighteen months long. And one of the first things I thought as soon as the ring was on my finger was, “Crap. I’ve got to grow my hair out again.”

See, I have some wild, unruly hair. It doesn’t look that bad in photos, but it’s thick, gets knotty and tangled like crazy, and is just generally a pain in the ass.

This was my hair in January of last year.

Ratty, dead, shapeless. But mmmmm, sushi!

About a week after that photo was taken, I got sick of my hair and chopped it off. I loved my funky, short cut.

And I kept it that short all year, until Mr. S and I got engaged in December of 2009. But I wanted long hair for the wedding. Oh, bother.

This is my hair now:

Meh. It’s growing quickly, but it’s still got a ways to go.

Anyway.

Mr. S’s sister-in-law is a hairdresser, and she’s offered to do my hair for the wedding (which rocks). Even better, she’s actually GOOD. She’s young and hip, and although I’ve never gotten a full cut from her because she lives 600 miles away, she’s trimmed my bangs very well and I am really REALLY particular (borderline psychotic) about my bangs.

So I still have several months to go, and I hope I don’t get so sick of my hair that I decide to shave my head! Wish me luck!

Are you growing your hair out for your wedding?

Ganbatte! That’s an overused phrase in Japanese that means “DO YOUR BEST!” I’ve pretty much resorted to pulling my hair back because it drives me batshit. And yay for friendors!

I started growing it out before we got engaged but when I had a feeling he’d pop the question soon. I was 6 months early so I will have been growing it out for 2 years by the time we get married. I’m crazy.

How did I miss that you are a bee now! I was wondering where you were on the boards!

I am growing my hair out for the wedding but also because I love my hair long but every once and a while I decide to cut it “short” and hate it. My short is most peoples long :)

Depending on what you want to do with your hair, from the looks of it you could stop growing now and you will have more than enough for an updo. My hair was about the same length at the time of my wedding (my SIL did my hair too, what a coincidence!) Here is a pretty good pic for reference: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DPF1riuIB4w/TH1U8b3oPII/AAAAAAAAAG0/gLRwkKUyuPA/s1600/je_bur_wd_299.jpg

My SIL actually said it’s easier to work with less hair. Obviously you want some length, but a lot of brides over-grow their hair.

Yes, and I am completely bummed about it too. I love the short, funky do’s (your’s is awesome!) but also want to have something longer for the wedding. I’m growing, and using some extensions if needed. I will undoubtedly be doing a Post Wedding Chop and am already planning on it. You?

@EAQ219: Yeah, if I wanted an updo, I could stop now (and totally would), but I’m going to wear my hair down for the wedding and I want long, luscious, flowing tresses. Sigh.

the grow-out is such a pain! i’ve done so many horrible things to my hair (blonde to black to blonde again numerous times!) that i think it’s trying to get me back by growing extremely slow! BUT i’ve started taking vitamins specifically for hair, skin & nails (i bought mine at duane reade, but i’m sure they have them at any pharmacy-type store) and they are working MIRACLES. my hair and nails are growing at ridiculous speeds- to the point where i’m getting frustrated that i have to dye my roots so often!

I hate my hair short, but I have such straight hair that you can’t do anything with it. Right now it’s down my back (grows super fast) and FH cannot wait for the wedding because I promised to get it cut short, err shoulder length (that’s short for me), right after….he always complains that it’s too long and is everywhere! I think the haircut is what he is looking forward to most, jk.

On the flip side I’ll be able to donate a pretty good chunk to locks-of-love. Which I’ve done before and love doing

My hair grows at the speed of, well…. something really slow. I’d been growing it out for a little while just for fun, but now I’m in the no-shop zone so my hairdresser can have as much as possible to work with. My hair is… challenging. Let’s leave it at that so I don’t write a novel in here. ;)

Clip-In extensions are the best thing ever! Once your hair gets about 2 inches longer, it’ll be perfect for clip-in’s! If you’re doing a slightly wavy look, it’ll be even more perfect.

Your short do is so friggen adorbs!! I love it.

I’m doing a PRE-wedding chop. It’s called, it’s summer in Houston and it’s hotter than Hades here so I grew my hair out to be able to put it in a ponytail and off my neck. In about November I will go back to my sassy bob =D

I love the reference to Hair, the Musical! I am also growing out my hair - we’ll see how it goes!

I am growing my hair out for my wedding. I had long hair as a child, but starting cutting it at shoulder length starting at high school on through college. And right after high school I had radiation treatment for thyroid cancer and it really thinned my hair out.

I have been getting regular trims to keep my hair from running to scraggly and to keep it healthy. I swear it helps it grow faster.

I did! My hair grows painfully slowly, so I started when we got engaged (we had a 22 month engagement). After the wedding I hacked it off, but now I’m finding that I miss my long hair. Classic case of “grass is always greener”, I’m afraid.

I have been growing my hair out for almost 18 months and it is no where near what I wish it was. I have had to get several cuts because it grows so much faster in the back and gets damaged so quickly. I want to wear it down and am bummed that it isnt longer. My hair lady charges an additional $75 bucks to deal with extensions too- something I didnt find out until after I booked her so that option is out too. :(

I grew my hair out too, and am still growing it! I can’t seem to muster up the courage to cut it.

I really didn’t think about it. My hair was already long and I haven’t felt like cutting it, so I haven’t. But if I got the urge, I’d probably go for it. I think there’s a beautiful bridal ‘do for any hair length!
