We had gorgeous weather on the wedding day. I must have used up my good wedding karma because on the day we left for the honeymoon (2 days after the wedding), it rained. a lot.
And all over the airport.
Our flight to Los Angeles was delayed. It was delayed from 5:00 pm to 5:30. Delayed from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Delayed until 8:00 pm. We boarded the plane. But we didn’t actually take off until 10:00 PM to go to Los Angeles.
“Are you the honeymoon couple? You’re not going to make your connection to Tahiti.” No sh*t, Sherlock. Thanks for the update, unnamed airline. And thanks for jacking up your a/c and then charging for a blanket.
We spent our first night of our honeymoon at an LAX airport hotel and the next day waiting for the next flight to Tahiti which wasn’t until late in the day. Unfortunately, this meant losing one night at our first destination—the Hilton Moorea Lagoon & Spa. Sad face!
…Should we do a quick geography lesson? French Polynesia is south of the equator, 8-ish hours from L.A. It is a “collectivity” (not sure what that means) of six groups of islands. Tahiti is part of the Society Islands and is also the largest island. Most vacationers stay within the Society Islands. Moorea is a 30 minute ferry ride from Tahiti and Bora Bora is a one hour flight…
Still, we made it there. And I had my final Twilight book (Eclipse) which kept me entertained while Mr. Lobster slept. Here we are in our first night in Tahiti (but not yet to our resort).

| Not at our resort yet. But still in good spirits in Tahiti. |
We made it to the ferry to Moorea the next day:
As the boat took off, there was this view. I immediately felt relaxed.
Arriving in Moorea
Our ferry docked and we looked for our pick-up transfer. A tall, tan, French man approached us and said (in an accent français of course), “I am Raymond. You must be the Lobsters. You were supposed to be here yesterday.” Yes, Raymond. That’s us. We boarded a small van and came to learn all about Raymond.
When Raymond was 18, he was in the French army. He could choose between a post in Germany or Tahiti. He chose “paradise,”—who wouldn’t? After a couple years, he finished his service and went back to France. Soon after, he moved to Moorea permanently and found himself a wife. That was 40 years ago. And now works for Albert, another French ex-pat who moved to Moorea in the 1960s and started his business first by providing taxi service to locals.
Meanwhile, we were passing this scenery as Raymond chatted away…

Welcome to Bungalow 33
Tahiti, land of the overwater bungalow. As you can see, our bungalow is on land and not over water. We did this to alleviate *some* of the expense in the first part of our trip and promised ourselves to blow it out in Bora Bora. Still, our bungalow was awesome. See here…
Our room had a large deck with a plunge pool (wish I had used this more), a bathtub fit for bubble baths, and two sinks to avoid any sink hogging arguments.
Next time: What you’ve been waiting for…the awesome views and how we occupied our time for 4 days.
Did your honeymoon get off to a rough start?
