Mrs. Lobster's Picture
Mrs. Lobster, Brooklyn Age and Occupation: 29, Finance Girl Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Finance Boy Engagement Date: July 25, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Stage 6 Steiner Studios About Me: I'm a New York-born, Virginia-bred girl who's found her way back to the big city. Mr. Lobster and I met in grad school and have been together ever since. I'm clueless about DIY but am an avid online shopper and love all things polka dots, stripes, and ruffles! When I'm not making wedding lists, you can find me looking for snacks, watching Gilmore Girls, or hanging out with Mr. Lobster and our new puppy Buddy! We are planning a fancy-pantsy Brooklyn wedding for a hot New York summer night which is sure to be a misadventure in the making.
About Mrs. Lobster

We had gorgeous weather on the wedding day. I must have used up my good wedding karma because on the day we left for the honeymoon (2 days after the wedding), it rained. a lot.

And all over the airport.

Our flight to Los Angeles was delayed. It was delayed from 5:00 pm to 5:30. Delayed from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Delayed until 8:00 pm. We boarded the plane. But we didn’t actually take off until 10:00 PM to go to Los Angeles.

“Are you the honeymoon couple? You’re not going to make your connection to Tahiti.” No sh*t, Sherlock. Thanks for the update, unnamed airline. And thanks for jacking up your a/c and then charging for a blanket.

We spent our first night of our honeymoon at an LAX airport hotel and the next day waiting for the next flight to Tahiti which wasn’t until late in the day. Unfortunately, this meant losing one night at our first destination—the Hilton Moorea Lagoon & Spa. Sad face!

…Should we do a quick geography lesson? French Polynesia is south of the equator, 8-ish hours from L.A. It is a “collectivity” (not sure what that means) of six groups of islands. Tahiti is part of the Society Islands and is also the largest island. Most vacationers stay within the Society Islands. Moorea is a 30 minute ferry ride from Tahiti and Bora Bora is a one hour flight…

Still, we made it there. And I had my final Twilight book (Eclipse) which kept me entertained while Mr. Lobster slept. Here we are in our first night in Tahiti (but not yet to our resort).

Not at our resort yet. But still in good spirits in Tahiti.

We made it to the ferry to Moorea the next day:

As the boat took off, there was this view. I immediately felt relaxed.

Arriving in Moorea

Our ferry docked and we looked for our pick-up transfer. A tall, tan, French man approached us and said (in an accent français of course), “I am Raymond. You must be the Lobsters. You were supposed to be here yesterday.” Yes, Raymond. That’s us. We boarded a small van and came to learn all about Raymond.

When Raymond was 18, he was in the French army. He could choose between a post in Germany or Tahiti. He chose “paradise,”—who wouldn’t? After a couple years, he finished his service and went back to France. Soon after, he moved to Moorea permanently and found himself a wife. That was 40 years ago. And now works for Albert, another French ex-pat who moved to Moorea in the 1960s and started his business first by providing taxi service to locals.

Meanwhile, we were passing this scenery as Raymond chatted away…

I think I’m going to like it here.

Welcome to Bungalow 33

Tahiti, land of the overwater bungalow. As you can see, our bungalow is on land and not over water. We did this to alleviate *some* of the expense in the first part of our trip and promised ourselves to blow it out in Bora Bora. Still, our bungalow was awesome. See here…

Our room had a large deck with a plunge pool (wish I had used this more), a bathtub fit for bubble baths, and two sinks to avoid any sink hogging arguments. :)

Next time: What you’ve been waiting for…the awesome views and how we occupied our time for 4 days.

Did your honeymoon get off to a rough start?

How BEAUTIFUL!!

I was stranded in Heathrow overnight on my way to Kenya. I was feeling pretty bad for myself until I met a couple for whom this was their WEDDING NIGHT and they were going to miss the first segment of their safari because of the flight cancellation. Anytime I think I’ve got it rough travel-wise, I think of that couple and count my lucky stars. It can always be worse.

Sorry you missed a day of your HM! Your bungalow is gorgeous and so is the scenery there. I hope the rest of your HM was wonderful.

Sorry for the delayed start to your honeymoon. All our snafoos happened during the reception. One of our guest had near cardiac arrest so we ended up with an ambulance and paramedics in attendance at our reception.

Looks like you made up for a bad start. Great pic!

wow that place looks amazing!! ours ALMOST had a rough start… it was still stressful tho. we had a layover in Atlanta and our flight was already a little late getting there. Then, as we were descending, we all of a sudden reved up and headed back up in to the sky! there was a mixup with the control tower and the pilot saw another plane taxiing across our runway as we were about to land. WTF. so we circled around and finally landed, but at this point we had 20 minutes TOTAL to get our butts off the plane and to our connecting flight. we were in the back of the plane! and of course, we were dropped off in terminal A and had to haul ass to terminal E. they were calling our names on the intercom and we got there with literally 2 minutes to spare. thank god!

GIDDY looking at your photos, because we also stayed at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon and Spa. :D We were lucky and able to upgrade to the panoramic overwater bungalow, which was beyond amazing, but the interior of the bungalow looks just the same! How freaking amazing was that bathroom? Thanks for the photos, I had been curious what the inside of the garden bungalows looked like - the plunge pool looks delightful.

Oh, and just a tidbit for anyone else traveling to Moorea: it is actually super easy to take the bus from the ferry to the Hilton (or any other hotel) and a lot cheaper than a hotel transfer.

You’re inspiring me to finish going through my own honeymoon photos and finally get some of them posted for our friends and family to see!
