Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Wine Bottles: Cut and Assembled

September 17th, 2010 @ 1:10 pm by Mrs. Locket

In my last post, I showed you all the great ways everyday items can be repurposed for use in a wedding. We decided a few months ago that we needed a cheap alternative to our centerpieces and went to the web for inspiration, where we found lovely ideas like these below:

I wanted to create something with a similar essence that would also tie into our vineyard venue. So, I gathered all the supplies I had been accruing over the past year along with all the cut wine bottles and got to work. With a lot of patience and creativity I was able to put together this mock-up using my potpourri of items.

Shown here with flash:

Clearly, we don’t plan on using this exact mock-up as our centerpiece, but it is pretty darn close to what we want.

  • Ignore the ugly-looking paper covered stem that is holding the cork and number will be changed to something less unsightly.
  • That number won’t be hastily handwritten with a Sharpie; instead, it will either be printed in a vintagey feeling font or hand-drawn in a prettier calligraphy style.
  • We hope to center everything on top of a lace circle—I was just using what we had on hand.
  • The flowers at the base will be replaced with live ones instead of the silk ones here.
  • Since we won’t have enough poms for every table we plan to mix it up with live flowers in some vases and dried poms in others.

Overall, both Mr. L and I are happy with my prototype and are excited to see what they will look like in action.

What do you think? Did we do a good job of catching that vintage, vineyard, rustic vibe?

Awesome awesome. :) I am really itching to see how beautiful your wedding turns out, since our wedding was also so winery-rustic. And, we also used cut wine bottles - but we took the easy route and just bought them already done from another Bee, so, double re-purposed! We filled ours with wine corks and set them on glass-topped wine barrels as cocktail tables. My grandmother’s mason jars held tea lights.
