And I Ran, I Ran So Far Away

September 17th, 2010 @ 4:12 pm by Mrs. Glasses

No, I’m not pulling a Julia Roberts a la Runaway Bride. I’m talking about decor (when am I not, really?). I’m talking about table runners.

Since we are having long, rectangular tables I’d love to complement them with table runners. I really have no strong ideas about them so I turn to the Holy Grail of weddings for inspiration: Martha Stewart Weddings.

Apparently, two shades of crepe paper are pinched and pulled at the edges to create this ruffly, layered look. So easy even I could do it! I can foresee a lot of problems with the fragility of the paper though.

Another easy and cost-effective option Martha offers is wrapping paper! So simple! But what happens when the wrapping paper gets wet?

DIY to the extreme! These flowers were created with cotton ribbon and a button is added for the center. They were pinned to a fabric table runner. It looks so sweet, albeit a little labor intensive, right? Head on over to Miss Husky for a blow-by-blow of the process.

Speaking of ribbons, I’ve notice a popular wedding trend using ribbons as table runners.

How about this idea for a rustic wedding?

Wood! I wish I was having a barn wedding!

Last but not least, there’s lace.

Table runners are an easy way to add perspective and fun to your table. If all else fails, I’ll head to IKEA and pick up some fabric!

Are you using a table runner to dress up your table? What are you using?

Love the ideas! Love the title more. We didn’t have table runners; we just went with the free white table cloths because they were free.

We’re going to be looking at linens. My planner suggested chair sashes as runners because they are cheaper? If it looks good, then that’s what we’ll be using.

I watched an online tutorial on using stitch witchery to make table runners, and the woman talking to the camera recommended keeping spare fabric around the house so when you’re prepping for a dinner party at the last minute, you can whip up a table runner for your dining table in minutes… I assume you’d need a new one to match the decor of the particular party? Seems a little intense to me, but table runners are indeed a beautiful addition to a table, and so easy to make.

I love the burlap table runners that are all the rage. You couldn’t find a cheaper fabric and with all that rustic texture you’re adding so much interest to the table. You don’t even have to finish the edges! Just fray them a bit!

Gotta love the Ikea fabric section! Of all your choices above, I really love the burlap.

i have decided to use table runners. I was going to make them myself until i discovered it was cheaper for me to buy the pre made table runners through efavormart.com they have lots of different styles of fabric and colors. check them out!

We’re using butcher paper as the table covering with ribbons as runners. I’m excited to see the final product! One week left!

All of these are gorgeous! We have round tables, so we’re using that as an excuse to skip the whole runner thing :( Gotta cut corners somewhere!

I found a close-out of a pretty white organza at JoAnn’s and my mom was kind enough to sew it all up in to runners for me. The organza wasn’t the easiest to work with, but I love how they came out.

we’re getting married in Vermont- outdoors and the reception is in a barn. I’m doing ivory table cloths, with a burlap table runner topped with blue ball mason jars filled with orange dahlias. I love the texture the burlap brings :)

My mum picked up a whole bunch of obis for cheap on a trip to Tokyo years ago, we use them as table and counter-top runners around the house and they look terrific.

We bought 35 yards of lace to cut into runners as we will be using picnic tables for an outdoor, shabby-chic reception. :) It only costed us $150.

I love the first one with crepe paper. So cute but I agree that it’s probably too fragile. I can’t wait to see what you choose.

that wood plank idea is pretty cool. i like how it adds dimension to the table, and works as a giant paper-weight of sorts. you definitely have a lot of options though - and ikea is so good for bulk fabric!
