Like many brides before me, I’ve decided to let my bridesmaids pick their own dresses (within parameters, of course! I’m way too type-A to just let dress selection happen freely). I really wanted my girls to love what they will be wearing ’cause we all know that when you look like crap, it’s really hard to have a good time. I’m willing to bet that these ladies were pretty miserable this day:
While I wanted each of my bridesmaids to pick a dress that she felt great in and that suited her individual style, I wanted the fabric and color to match exactly. I also felt like cocktail or tea length would be more appropriate than long dresses for our wedding (not to mention that I don’t want my girls to feel inhibited by long dresses when they tear it up on the dance floor), and I wanted the four styles to be unique enough that you could tell right away that the dresses were intentionally different.
One of the many things I love about my BMs is that they are a decisive bunch. They know what they like and don’t like, and aren’t afraid to make a decision. No back-and-forth wavering for these ladies. They each picked their dresses in under 30 minutes. Love. It. I’m also incredibly lucky ’cause one of my BFFs (and BMs) is the manager of a fabulous bridal boutique in Dallas. There was no question where we would go to look for dresses. When we started the dress selection, Dallas BMs Angela and Amber started looking through racks for things they liked and trying things on. The first dress that we fell in love with was this one, which was a perfect style for BM Amber. It just looked like her, and it was a dress that she could definitely wear again:
The final product will be navy blue and shortened to just above the knee. Adorable, right? Since we were sold on this one for BM Amber, we limited our choices to designs by Alvina Valenta, Jim Hjelm, and Lazaro, all of which have the same parent company, so that we could get all the dresses in the same color and fabric. After BM Amber’s dress was decided, we found this dress for BM Angela:
Again, imagine it in navy and shortened to the knee. So, we have a halter style and a one-strap style. Check and check. Next up was Nashville BM Elizabeth. Luckily for me, Elizabeth came to visit me in New York with BM Angela just a week after we picked the first two dresses, so off to a bridal shop we went! Looking through the same group of designers, we chose a ton of dresses for BM Elizabeth to try on, and with her perfect figure she looked great in all of them! It was a difficult choice, but we settled on this one, which was absolutely stunning:
Strapless? Check. Last but not least was Chicago MOH/Sister Hippo. The tricky part is that Sister Hippo is currently seven-months pregnant, so trying on bridesmaids dresses wasn’t really an option. We are getting married five months after she will have given birth, so she also wasn’t sure what her body would be doing and wanted a more forgiving style. I gave her a few suggestions from my online search, and she picked this one:
Don’t you just love a dress with pockets?! Since the dresses are all different, I’m going to have the BMs in the same shoes to tie it all together.
So…the bridesmaids dresses are decided. Which one is your favorite?
