Lobsters & Lagoons: Moorea

September 20th, 2010 @ 3:24 pm by Mrs. Lobster

It took us a while to get here, but we made it. On our first day in Moorea, we toured the resort. The Hilton Moorea is a relatively small resort which is similar to the other resorts on the island. It was nestled between private residences along the main road. The resort consisted of 2 main restaurants, a small beach, overwater and land accommodations, the pool, small spa, and main lobby/hut where reception was.

Since we started our trip on a Tuesday, it felt less crowded, quiet, and serene. I found staring at these bungalows very peaceful as I lay on the beach.

There were a few included water activities including snorkeling and kayaking. I heard the snorkeling was good because the lagoon’s pretty active. The water is quite shallow around the resort.

Is the happiness is evident on my face? There are a few lookout points along the overwater bungalow path. This one faced mountains similar to the ones we could see from our bungalow deck.

Surprisingly, I only spent one afternoon at the pool. Most other days we were at the beach or on our deck. Usually when I’m on a trip, I’m stressing about seeing everything, etc. But here…it was like, “who cares if we don’t leave our room? Our room is awesome!”

We tried to catch the sunset every day. Since we were south of the equator, it was winter, so the sun set at 5:30 PM making it a challenge to catch. The first pic is of me on the day I decided to stop showering / putting makeup on / wearing non beach clothes. Yes, that’s what Mr. Lobster is tied to now forever and ever (and ever).

This is the band that played every night at the “bar.” Bar is in quotes because there were so few people and we were in bed by 8:30 PM, so we had no idea what happened after that. Anyhoo, ukulele music and Polynesian tunes:

One night we caught the weekly Polynesian show. I assume this type of show is similar to what you see in Hawaii. I just don’t get how those girls shake their hips so well.

Next time: Did we do anything active at all? Yes we did. Kayaking, ATV tours, and the spa, of course…

Is it just me, or does this look exactly like the obstacle course scenery from EA Sports Active 2 for Wii? :)

So, that bench you’re gloriously lounging on in the third photo - we sat on that bench a few evenings sipping rum punch while watching the sunset, and also in that photo, just behind you, you can see the tip of our bungalow’s back deck! So cool seeing it in your blog post! Wasn’t it just the most amazing place? We also had no compunction about hanging out in and around our room, since that was pretty much the best spot to relax and enjoy the views around! And yes, the snorkeling was AMAZING - everyone said that the Hilton’s lagoon under all the bungalows boasted the best snorkeling on the island. Such cool fishies.

I was thinking about Moorea for our honeymoon! One of the things worrying me was the long flights. How long was your flight?

We stayed @ the Hilton Moorea, too! We were there in June. We went kayaking almost every day, and snorkeling, too. I’m interested to hear what restaurants you ate at, which ATV tour your did, etc. SO fun to ’see’ our honeymoon spot on weddingbee! (Not sure if you made it to Bora Bora, but we stayed at the Intercontinental there)

@Topolino: the flight was not bad. we did 6 hours from NYC to LA and then LA to Tahiti was about 8-9 hours. It’s manageable as long as you can sleep on the plane + have lots of reading material ;)
@Eve: Yes we also went to Bora Bora! Those posts will be coming up soon.
