I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. About Mrs. Brooch

A Different Kind of Bubbly

September 20th, 2010 @ 9:30 am by Mrs. Brooch

When I fell in love with our venue, I didn’t know that sparklers were prohibited from the property. Boo! I’ve always wanted sparklers. From the beginning, as we sometimes say. I knew from the beginning.

Needless to say, I was really disappointed when I found out we weren’t going to be able to have them. I sulked for a long time about it but, eventually, I realized the pros of our venue far out way the cons, and I just have to get over having sparklers.

My backup? Bubbles. Yes, bubbles. I’m one of thoooose brides. Haha. I wasn’t sold on the bubbles at first, but while thrift-store hopping (my favorite pasttime), I found a bunch of packs of wedding bubbles for about 25 cents each (score!). It seemed like a sign! Hey, they’re usually a dollar each. What a steal, right?! I thought so.

I also got excited about decorating the bottles. That’s going to be such a fun and easy DIY project.

Right now they look pretty plain and boring, but of course we plan on adding some color! Some pink and green. Woot woot! I was also thinking of making labels or a sign that says “Love is in the Air,” or something sweet like that. Ideas?

The moral of the story? Not all dashed wedding dreams have a sad ending. In this case, it turns out my sparkler dilemma has turned into a really exciting project and (as you can see from the pictures below) some really cool photos, hopefully. Not to mention loads of fun for our guests (especially the younger crowd)!

Will you have bubbles or sparklers or something else? Did you have to revise some of your wedding plans when you found your venue?

Test out those bubbles first! I bought .25 bubbles for my engagement party and none of them worked and we had a bunch of very disappointed toddlers.

I really wanted sparklers too, but alas our venue does not allow them either. FI suggested bubbles, but I am not sold on that idea yet. I am worried about stains on my dress! Love your inspiration pictures though…

I love the bubbles. A friend of mine got married and used bubbles machines so that there would be lots of bubbles in the pictures. The pics turn out awesome!

My MIL made packets of birdseed without really telling me, so after the ceremony we were covered in birdseed. Good photos though. However I put bubbles in the kids’ bags, which was the best thing ever. We had a dozen little girls running around with bubbles and there were some great photos with my and the girls. I loved it.

We’re doing birdseed, I’m pretty excited about that! Something about how traditional it is.

my venue doesn’t allow anything to be thrown (not even flower petals or birdseed!) so my mom and a friend and i made ribbon wands! not original, but i love the idea of them!

@catiejoy: I love ribbon wands! I was actually thinking of having them too!! We’ll use the bubbles for the end of our ceremony, and wands for when we exit altogether. Too much? I don’t think so!!

I KNEW from the beginning that I wanted sparklers and my venue also said NO….. So, I suggested to just let us and the bridal party do sparklers - just for photo ops - and they AGREED! Yopu might try to do this and you can have the best of both worlds :)

Love the idea of bubbles! Just as fun as sparklers, and less dangerous. :)
