A Little Shoe Redo

September 21st, 2010 @ 4:35 pm by Mrs. Plaid

Do y’all remember the shoes that I gushed about a couple months ago? No? Let me remind you.

A Little Shoe Redo : wedding austin shoes 100 046

I love them. I still love them. But sadly I won’t be wearing them on our wedding day anymore. They’re very tall. And by tall, I mean four-and-three-quarter-inches tall. You see, Mr. Plaid is 6’6″, so I could wear eight inch heels and still be shorter then him. So I thought that four and three quarter inches was nothing.

But they’re too tall. They hang out of the bottom of my dress. I bought the dress before the shoes, and the dress can’t be made longer. So, goodbye fabulous shoes.

I found these Nina shoes on clearance at DSW a few weeks ago and got it in my head that I could dye them myself. Yeeeeaaahhh…that did not end well. So, moving on again.

I searched online and found a cute pair on Chadwicks.com. They were very basic but I liked them. I figured if I got them and they were too plain, I could always spruce them up. And at $25, I couldn’t lose anything. So order them I did!

When they arrived, they indeed were too plain. But they fit perfectly and I really liked the style. These were the shoes. They were also the perfect height. The dress covered most of them, with just a hint of blue poking out the bottom!

So, what do you need to spice up a pair of shoes? Add glitter, of course! And possibly some flowers, you know, for just a little something extra!

1. All started with two shoes…

2. The shoes were stuffed with newspapers and prepared for their glitterizing.

3. Glitter away!

A Little Shoe Redo : wedding austin shoes Dscn04002

4. And voila! Glitterfication complete! Oooo, sparkly!

6. Of course that wasn’t enough, so faux flowers were deconstructed.

7. Then they were reassembled and beads were added to the center.

8. The flowers were then glued to the shoes.

One more picture on my foot for good measure. Please excuse the horrible toe paint job. Eww!

So what do y’all think? Are they fancy enough? Is the flower too much? Did you have to embellish your wedding shoes to make them picture-worthy?

These came out really great! I glittered shoes once, and the only thing that I would be worried about is that the glitter started coming off halfway through the night. The shoes still looked fine, but I was leaving a trail of glitter all night, so you might end up with blue glitter all over your hem…unless you can somehow seal the glitter with some kind of spray?

those are awesome! what kind of glitter did you use? look like it worked great! I like them equally with or without the flower, I think both ways are cute!

I agree, I think you would want some kind of sealer to keep the glitter from falling off. And, wouldn’t you be able to feel the glitter on the bottom of your toes (looks like you got some on the shoe where your toes go)?

But, I do love them, and they look even better (to me, anyway) then the original ones you got!

That is fabulous. And nobody will have the same shoes as you, ever.

The glitter on the part of the shoe that your toes touch look like it would hurt. How did you toes feel touching the glitter? Was it all over your foot?

OMG! Thank you for this post! I have been up and down stores looking for blue shoes that have an ankle strap and don’t have a crazy high heel! I haven’t be able to find anything yet (but I have until Oct 2011).

What was the name of the glitter? Did you use a sealant so that your feet don’t get all sparkly after they sweat all day in the shoes?

You have given me fabulous ideas in case I can’t find exactly what I am looking for. Please share the outcome.

OH LA LA!!! Those look amazing!!! Does the glitter leave a trial of sparkles or is it pretty well stuck? :)

I think my dress might be too short for 4 inch heels too. The dress did not seem that long when I tried it on and I am only 5′3″

I LOVE the glitter, but think that they are more streamlined and sophisticated without the flower. And, definitely use some spray sealant to make sure you’re not leaving glitter everywhere, and getting it all over your dress. 3 coats should do you (I sealed a glitter pair of jellies that way, worked great!)

How did you apply the glitter? What type of glue was used? Does your toe part of shoe part you when you walk?

Very Interesting
