Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

I’m a Makeup Idiot.

September 21st, 2010 @ 11:35 am by Mrs. Cardigan

Really, I am. I don’t know why, but I think I just missed out on some female gene that all women are supposed to get that teaches you all about makeup and how to use it. My makeup bag hasn’t changed much since high school (I’ve replaced things, but I’m still using the same cheap-o brands) and even though it’s pretty full, I really only use 4 or 5 things in it on a regular basis.

Mr. Cardigan frequently tells me how amazed he is at how fast I’m able to get ready to go somewhere, but the reality of it is I’m just fast because I don’t do much. I throw on some foundation, eyeliner, and maybe mascara if I’m feeling ambitious, and then I call it a day.

Now, on a day-to-day basis, this isn’t really a big deal. I mean, I don’t need to look like a supermodel every day (although, that sure would be nice!), but on our wedding day I’d really like to look a little more special than usual. Of course, the simple solution is to hire a makeup artist, but I’m cheap.

Plus, why would I do that when I have my own personal stylist? What? You don’t believe that I have a personal stylist? Check it:

Junior prom – don’t have a photo with her, but she did my makeup and, if I remember correctly, a faux tan!

Getting ready for senior prom – that’s my awesome stylist!

My stylist prepping me for a family member’s wedding.

There also exists a photo of her (temporarily) dying my hair black so that my Cleopatra halloween costume could be the best costume ever. I believe I was about 8 at the time. We go way back.

That’s right, my friends, Sister Cardy is basically the best sister ever, and has been doing my hair and makeup for big events for as long as I can remember. She’s way better at it than I could ever hope to be.

Since she’s done my makeup for so many special events in my life, I figure it’s only natural that she does it for the biggest one yet—my wedding! She’s the only person in the world that I’d trust to do my makeup for my wedding day, and I’m so excited to add that to our long list of events she’s made me beautiful for!

I already know that she’s the person I want to do my makeup for the wedding day, so I’m not sure that a makeup trial is really necessary. Of course, I’ll never turn down a makeup application from my awesome stylist. Maybe I’ll have to bribe her into giving me a little makeup trial this weekend when I’m visiting her! (Are you listening, Sister Cardy?! ;-) )

Are you having someone special do your hair and/or makeup? Do you have a personal stylist in your life? I highly recommend it!

Ha Ha - you use eyeliner every day and mascara when you’re feeling ambitious. I do the complete opposite. If I put nothing else on, I always use mascara. Eyeliner is for when I’m feeling ambitious, and going to a special event. And yeah, my makeup bag sounds just like yours - cheapo brands (save for a good primer I discovered by accident), and full of stuff that I never use. I missed that gene, too, apparently.

<3 this because my sister is my stylist too. She does my hair and make up for EVERYTHING including my bridal shower that just past about two weeks ago. I’d be lost without her!

AWWW I’m jealous that you have a sister! Listen Cardy, whatever you have lacking in your hair is definitely made up for with the flawlessness of your skin! OMG! Can I have your skin please? :) (ewww, I mean that in the non-gross way of course. Not the Silence of the Lambs way)

I’ve been thinking about this too lately! I think I’m actually fairly adept at doing my own makeup, but everyone seems shocked when I say I’m planning on doing it myself for my wedding. But I have a problem paying someone $300 to do something I could easily do myself, especially since I have months to practice! So I just went out and bought a pile of makeup for a fraction of what I Would have spent on a stylist. Hopefully I won’t regret it!!

I know exactly how you feel with the makeup. I spend more time throwing old makeup away then I do wearing it. I have yet to find a stylist or anyone I would dare let touch my face. (too many false tanning scares from letting friends do it in the highschool days) It’s tough! But good luck & happy planning! Oh!! And I know this sounds silly, but I work in a Hampton hotel and I immediately noticed the shower curtain..and I just had to comment :)

Awww, you’re already such a beautiful girl, you don’t need to pile lots of make-up on! I agree though, having a personal stylist would be wonderful! What I find that helps though is going to youtube and finding tutorials on how to quickly apply make-up that brightens and enhances my features without spending too long. It has made a huge difference for me!

Oh - now that I’m not sick and getting caught up on all my reading I feel really bad that I didn’t get to do this for you! You know I love me some makeup. Anytime! We can get really pretty and make the boys take us out :-)
