About Ms. Sloth

Jumping the Gun. Like BIG-time.

September 21st, 2010 @ 2:07 pm by Ms. Sloth

Mr. S and I decided to have a long engagement for two reasons:

  1. We got engaged this past Christmas and REALLY wanted to get married in the spring. Spring 2010 wouldn’t give us enough time to plan, so spring 2011 it is.
  2. We need the time to save as much money as possible.

It’s all well and good, but the downfall is that it gives us (well, let’s be honest, me) plenty of time to make decisions and then second-guess them. And third-guess them, etc. I mean, I’m the type of person who, two months before any dressy event, buys a dress, then a few weeks later, sees another one she likes better and buys that one. Then I find a pair of shoes I like better and buy those. By the time the event rolls around, I’ve got a crap-ton of dresses in my closet that I’ll never wear. I’m just indecisive and fickle that way.

So, just a few months after we got engaged, with fifteen months to go before the wedding, do you know what I did?

I bought a dress.

When I went to David’s Bridal to try on dresses a few weeks beforehand, my mom found a really cute ivory dress for me in their prom section. I thought it was adorable, but after trying on about 12 dresses and falling in love with the Galina Signature dress I mentioned in my previous post, I didn’t feel like trying on the prom dress.

But I’d kind of been having second thoughts about the Galina. It’s beautiful and flattering, but I think it’s just too much dress for our simple, rustic garden wedding. So today, I was running errands and drove by David’s, so I decided to pop on in and try on the prom dress.

And I loved it. AND, it was only $189! AND, I found a tiny, barely noticeable little smudge on it and asked if they’d give me a discount. They did, so it was even less! AND, as soon as I got home, the smudge came right out with a tiny bit of soap and water.

I know that I’ll probably fall in love with a whole bunch of other dresses. But this one is so cute and so affordable and fits in so well with our wedding. It’s more comfortable than the Galina, and I won’t need a bridesmaid to hold it up while I pee. It’s just more ME.

But I know that I’ll end up finding like 10 more dresses I like before the wedding.

Anyhoo, here’s the dress. I’ll be swapping out the black sash for something else. What do you think?

Did you jump the gun and buy a dress early in your engagement? Did you end up regretting it?

I am a 3+ dress bride, 6+ shoe bride. I totally know the feeling! I added in the +’s because I try not to think about the real numbers!

The dress is wonderful :) The tiers are classy and fun. Your right, it’s perfect for a rustic garden wedding!

I bought my dress 11 months prior, having only visited the 1 salon. It was their floor sample, and they were having a sample sale the following week so I had to decide, now or never! I haven’t let myself try on any other dresses, had I, I’m sure I would have found another!

I’m right there with you. I bought an Alfred Angelo dress for $98 and then a month later bought a dress from a department store that I LOVE. So far, I’m a 2 dress and 1 pair of shoes bride and trying very hard to stay that way….but I saw some wonderful boots the other day…. *sigh*

Love the tiers. Does it alternate lace and some other fabric on them?
As for my dress, I bought one during my only dress shopping experience and feel in love slowly.

I love it! It looks very cute, a different sort of wedding dress. I think the sash swap would be good, the dark color cuts your frame in half visually. You’re going to make such a lovely bride

Even if you find another one, know that this dress looks awesome on you. It looks so long and slender!

that dress is beautiful and you look wonderful and beautiful in it.

I bought my first dress just about 6 months into our 18 month engagement. It was a DB’s number. While I hated ball gowns everyone said I should get one, so I found one I liked…didn’t love..and was convinced to buy it. Well 6 months later it was sitting in my closet and I tried it on again. I hated it. I called my dad in tears. He just told me to buy another dress. Well I visited a few salons and fell in love with the fit and flare and thought I found my dress, but I didn’t like the fabric and the designer doesn’t change fabrics. So I browsed ebay one night and found my dress $66 sipped. I was in love and I never tried it on. So while I ended up buying a 2nd dress both dresses together with the cost to alter my dream dress down 2.5 sizes were still under my original dress budget.

I bought my dress back in February (I’m getting married in 2 1/2 weeks!) and honestly, I’ve regretted it ever since. I wish I would have taken more time to shop around before settling on one. (Although it looks like you’ve tried on a bunch and knew what you were looking for, so it was different for me. I purchased mine online. It’s the only wedding dress I’ve ever tried on.) My dress was less than $200 but I was guilt-tripped into not buying another one. So I’m getting married in a dress that I think of as “Eh..” It still makes me sad. But hopefully in 2 1/2 weeks I won’t care anymore!

I love that dress, I think it fits your wedding perfectly! And I bought my dress one year to the day before our wedding but never once waivered in that decision…Sometimes, when ya know, ya know!

I DID THE SAME THING!! Except I returned mine… it didn’t look as LOVELY as this one does on you. Yours is super stunning and it’s PERFECT for a rustic wedding. I LOVE IT. It’s super fun and definitely suits you better. I can tell it’s more YOU. Glad you went with it.

A total steal too, for the price. That’s great!
