Wedding Day Jewels

September 21st, 2010 @ 5:45 pm by Mrs. Locket

For a while I’ve been up in the air about what I wanted to wear as my wedding day jewelry. I love bold, over-the-top-pieces and swoon over statement pieces like this one:

But, I have two problems: 1) I have a short stubby neck that doesn’t look pretty in bold/chunky necklaces; and 2) My dress has a lot of beading and crystal detail in the bodice and adding over-the-top jewelry might be too much.

There were a few times where I thought I had found the perfect necklace or set of earrings, but nothing quite seemed to fit. That was until Mr. L thought we should go searching together. We ended up finding the perfect Le Vian set, but there was a catch…the price tag.

I had sticker shock and could not see myself spending that kind of money on a piece that would only be worn on special occasions. We left the store empty-handed and with hopes that we could find something just as lovely without putting a huge dent in our pockets.

Well, Mr. L thought differently and surprised me a week later while I was at my hair trial. Ever the eager gift giver he could not hold out until our wedding day to gift me the set. I’ll admit, I was a bit disappointed by the impromptu surprise (because who doesn’t love those wedding pics of a surprised bride opening her wedding day gift), but I  was excited nonetheless.

And, without further ado…my lovely wedding day jewels.

I love that they will fit in perfectly with our vintage-romantic look and am excited that on our wedding day Mr. L will be placing my necklace on me during our first look. (**Yes, you heard that right! I’ve convinced L-money that a first look will be just as meaningful, if not more than when he sees me walk down the aisle.) I hope to squeeze in a few more posts this week (I know I’ve been failing as a bee, sorry) between the chaos.

Yay wedding week!!!

Are you investing in jewelry for your wedding day?

Beautiful, and how sweet of Mr. L! I bet the photos of him placing the necklace on you will be wonderful.

Just as a side note related to your comment about spending money on jewelry that will only be worn on special occasions: my dangly diamond-and-pearl chandelier style earrings from my wedding are pretty distinctively “wedding” earrings, but for some reason I felt inspired to put them on for a friend’s housewarming party while wearing a black tank top and jeans a few weeks after I got married. The look actually went really well, and I’m pleased that I’ll get more use out of my awesome earrings. I think that a lot of really amazing jewelry can be worn in more casual situations than we necessarily always think about, which is fantastic since you can get much more use out of your jewelry.

WOW. That sounds amazing! I believe if you are going to invest in jewelry it should definitely be something you will wear again! Personally I haven’t had the budget to splurge but I entered my Maid of Honor in this contest by JIC called “Gems Among Us”. And if she wills she gets a trip and I get a $5,000 jewelry shopping spree! Crossing my fingers for some amazing bling like you :)

I wore the same dress Just 2 weeks Ago!!!! Loved my maggie sottero. Did you go with the royale vogue??? I had a rough time finding a necklace to go with my gown as well i was lucky enough to find a beautiful vintage single strand of pearls with small diamond accents and a pear drop. It was breathe taking. The dress looks amazing and your necklace choice went well also
