Hello from wearestillrecoveringfromourweddingland! It’s pretty awesome, except for the part where we both got colds. Yeah. Weddings really take it out of you!
Anyhow, because my wife (!) recovers far later into the morning than I do, I actually have time to start tossing up all those posts I meant to write for you guys pre-wedding! Lucky you!
So pull up a chair and let’s chat about my other love: the blue mason jar. I’ve loved blue mason jars since I was a kid addicted to Sunset Magazine. Yup. I was a freak. Moving on. I knew that I wanted to incorporate blue mason jars into our whimsical, outdoor love fest, but I was already hung up on using milk glass (say what?! I never wrote that post either! My god—what was I doing around here?) for our centerpieces. Then a crazy thought sprung into my head—what if our guests could drink out of the jars?
I know, it’s not the most original idea in wedding land, where mason jar brides abound, but the blue ones? I became hellbent on having our guests drink out of those damn blue jars. And not just because they’re blue people, but because they’re green.
It’s really, really super green to assign guests one jar for the evening—it saves tons of water/excess cups/glasses/jars, whatever you fancy. Not to mention the labor it takes to clean up those multiplyinglikerabbits beverage containers. It saves you money and it saves mama earth AND it’s super pretty—score!
Well, except for the fact that blue jars are so damn expensive. Who knew? Anyhow, it’s a good thing we had a long engagement because that gave us plenty of time to scour flea markets/thrift stores/internet for the best deals on blue jars. And we ended up with just enough to make my blue jar drinking dreams come true! And a little spare change in our pockets, too. (And a whole lotta billy balls, but that’s another post!)

Now, obviously if we were gonna make our guests hold onto the same jar ALL NIGHT we needed a cute way to label them, and being obsessed with all things chalkboard (hello! reusable) I was super excited to find Braden’s Grace on Etsy. She whipped out 100 mini chalkboard hearts in record time, and was a total pleasure to deal with. And the end result? AWESOME.
Seriously- check it out:

And a few examples of our guests documenting their jars:

I guess that means they liked ‘em right? Oh! And as a side note—I highly recommend stripey straws (natch)! Our guests fancied them so much, they were drinking beer & wine through them all night! LOL. Who knew?
Are you considering using mason jars or some other alternative beverage containers for your guests? Are you secretly worried about how it will all work out like I was?
