Last week, the state of Colorado granted permission for the Huskies to get hitched!

And while we’re all set on the marriage license front, we’ve had some changes to the roster regarding who will be marrying us.

I mentioned that Step-Husky would be performing our ceremony for us. But, I was hesitant. See, Step-Husky came down with a severe case of Shingles. Generally, folks can recover from this illness in 3-5 weeks. Step-Husky has been battling it for nearly 5 months.

The rash developed near his forehead, and spread to his eye. While most of the blisters are gone now, the nerve endings in and around his eye have been damaged. What this means for him is extreme pain and sensitivity to sunlight, which also means an afternoon wedding ceremony may be too much for him.

We kept hoping he would be fully recovered by the wedding. He’s seen so much improvement, and his good days are becoming more frequent. But his bad days—well, they’re bad. And they can be very debilitating.

So our ceremony plan has changed a bit. instead of Step-Husky performing the wedding, we’ve asked FFIL Husky! We are close with the Husky-in-laws, and believe FFIL Husky will craft a beautiful ceremony, with a peppering of his signature sense of humor. But Step-Husky hasn’t been completely let off the hook—in lieu of having readings at the ceremony, Step-Husky will stand and say a few words if he’s feeling up to it. This will give us the best of both worlds—the pressure of doing the entire ceremony is off of Step-Husky, but he will still have the opportunity to say what he wants to say. And if he’s not feeling up to it, he’s asked my mom to stand on his behalf and read what he has written. Regardless of which path the day may take, I think we’ll end up with a lovely ceremony, and a touching contribution from Step-Husky.

What kind of emotionally difficult changes have you had to make in regards to your wedding?
